The dual-layer EVA midsole features an A-Bound top layer that reduces the impact of hard surfaces and delivers flexible, responsive performance, while the decoupled heel promotes a softer foot strike. The FootShape toe box encourages natural toe splay and keeps the big toe straight for more comfort, stability, and power. The redesigned mesh upper wicks away moisture and provides a more secure fit. Finally, the company’s proprietary Zero Drop platform ensures an ideal weight balance from heel to forefoot, great for running, long-distance walking, cross-training, and ultramarathons.

Altra was born in the back room of a Wasatch Mountains running store, where owner Golden Harper met countless runners who complained of knee pain, shin splints, and other injuries from traditional pointed toe boxes and thick, heavy heels. A competitive runner himself, Golden began experimenting with shoe alterations to solve his customers’ problems. By melting the outsoles (in his trusty toaster oven!), he was able to remove the excess heel elevation for a more natural, relaxed foot position. The new platform design was dubbed Zero Drop.
