I'd like to share my thoughts on this style of jacket. Five years ago I reviewed a VERY similar jacket made by CAMP, and Italian ski/climb/run company. In fact the two jackets are so similar that I wonder if this one by Altra is licensed by CAMP and made under the Altra name.
Anyway, it's a fantastic jacket and I still use it today. I had originally tested it with backpackers in mind, and my review conclusion was that this jacket would be best for racing events. However, after having used it for several more years I realize that it's use it much greater than that due to the superior convenience. Consider: *If you're carrying a heavier backpack and don't want to keep taking it on and off to change layers *Backcountry skiing where the weather (especially wind exposure) varies as your travel upwards and along ridge *For any sport (backpacking, running, biking) when you're in weather than changes frequently. this is much easier to put on and off than a regular wind shell. I can do this even while riding a bike, so it is very convenient. I'll have this around my waist for a climb, and then at the top I'll pull it out and wear it for the descent to keep me from getting chilled - amazing.
And, the breathability is fantastic because it's usually your back that gets so sweaty and over heated, regardless of whether you're wearing a pack or not.

One thing to note is that the front zipper goes up part way, and then there are two velcro tabs that close the hood around your neck. At first I thought that was weird, but quickly realized the genius in this design. The velcro across your chin is actually softer than a zipper, and more flexible. More important, though, is that you can keep your chin/upper neck protected while opening up the chest area to help ventilate better. I usually heat up in my torso, but can still be cold around my neck and face (especially while biking). Love this aspect.
Happy to answer any questions about this item as it's quite unique. Here is the original review of the similar style CAMP pullover, and I would say that the Altra fit has improved upon the original CAMP one: https://backpackinglight.com/camp_flash_anorak_review/

DannyMilksThank you! I'm looking at this for racing but nice to see someone who has used it in other ways that I am also interested in.
