Featured on Trail Runner’s list of “The Best Jackets for the Worst Weather,” the Altra StashJack is a running shell unlike any other. Meant to be worn with a hydration pack or vest, its unique design allows it to be put on and taken off without removing said pack—so you can maintain your momentum and save valuable time. Simply wear your backpack as you normally would and fasten the StashJack pouch around your waist. When the first chill comes on, pull the jacket from the pouch, pull it over your head like an apron, and connect the tails below your pack with the Velcro fasteners. When the weather warms, the jacket stuffs away just as easily. The open back provides access to your gear, while the deep zipper lets you reach any front-side pockets or water bottles. Wind resistant, water resistant, and highly compressible, the StashJack weighs just 3.3 ounces.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of color: beetroot, blue, or silver. Sizes range from unisex XS to XL.
Altra was born in the back room of a Wasatch Mountains running store, where owner Golden Harper met countless runners who complained of knee pain, shin splints, and other injuries from traditional pointed toe boxes and thick, heavy heels. A competitive runner himself, Golden began experimenting with shoe alterations to solve his customers’ problems. By melting the outsoles (in his trusty toaster oven!), he was able to remove the excess heel elevation for a more natural, relaxed foot position. The new platform design was dubbed Zero Drop. These days, in addition to shoes, Altra makes all kinds of running apparel.
