Seems pricey for what it is? Nice looking wallet/field notes case, wouldn't mind paying that price if it was hand stitched and had horween or other USA made leather. Saddle stitch is more than strong enough to keep leather goods in great shape over time. The rivets make it thicker than it needs to be. Still, a nice looking piece, just a little expensive for what it is/the work that goes into it.

mayorblurpsHey @mayorblurps,
Thanks for your input. Just to address a few of your concerns on the price, design, and material selection:
- We make these from a single piece of leather and use riveted construction for utmost durability. We focus on creating seamless designs because with products like journals and wallets, the friction they experience from residing in your pocket during everyday use, ultimately leads to failure in the thread stitched seams. Friction will force thread to fray and tear over time, where solid brass will simply get polished by that same friction. Saddle stitching is an outstanding form of craftsmanship but we still feel the riveted construction is ultimately more durable (which is why we are able to guarantee our products for life). Also, riveting certainly takes less time than saddle-stitching, however we use extremely high quality solid brass rivets that are approximately 25 times more expensive than your highest quality thread.
- You mentioned that it would be more worth the price if it was made with Horween or some other USA made leather. You are correct that it is not Horween, HOWEVER, it is USA made leather. Horween makes excellent leather but they charge an exorbitant price to small businesses because they know the Horween brand is popular and therefore they can inflate the price. We chose to work with a small U.S tannery that makes extremely high quality leather without the brand-name price tag, thus allowing us to offer our products at a fair price.
Hope that helps clarify a few of your concerns. Let us know if you have any other questions.
Best, Jason

AmericanBenchCraftI've tried myself to get some horween before but they do not cater to just anyone. And yes, pricing is very high for their leather but some of it is worth the cost. I certainly understand not wanting to spend a ton of money on some horween hides when you can get same quality leather without the horween price tag; unless you are a big leather goods maker, horween may as well not exist. Thanks for the response!

AmericanBenchCraftAlso- just my personal preference that I prefer hand sewn leather goods. Rivets certainly work and add a different aesthetic! My comment wasn't intended to insult or call into question the quality at all.

mayorblurpsTotally understand! You clearly know your stuff when it comes to leather, and we really appreciate you expressing your thoughts in such a respectful way. Plus it is great for us to have the opportunity to explain in more detail the thoughts and considerations that go into our designs and material selection.
