Bad timing on this deal, the new Nvidia Turing cards will likely be announced & on sale by mid April. The only GPU anyone should buy at present is an EVGA model because of their ‘step up’ program, otherwise you’re paying $950 for a gpu that will be compara to the next generation’s mid-tier Model that usually launches at a price betwee $450 & $550. And as this drop doesn’t ship until 3/19, it just makes it more frustrating.
My advice, register for email notifications on evga for sll of their 1080ti cards and buy whatever comes in stock first. register the card And when the new cards get released use EVGA’s step up to get the next gen card.
Not taking a swing at massdrop, just my honest advice.

OldmanianThose are just rumors. There is no concrete evidence that Turing will be out by mid April.

solgoodguyIf Turing isn't out by April it would be a deviation from Nvidia's recent history on launch schedules. There is also the matter that several sources are reporting that Nvidia is no longer producing the graphics cores and the manufacture of GDDR6 has stated that they will be appearing on consumer cards in the near future. If it's not mid April, I don't believe that I am off by more then a month or at most two.
Keep in mind that the GTC is the third week of March, and there is a very good chance that there will be an announcement then. Especially if the manufacture of current gen gpu cores has stopped. the only other option is Computex at the end of May.
That notwithstanding, I guarantee that you can buy any EVGA card for this price or less prior to getting this card delivered in late March.

OldmanianTuring? first it was Volta, then someone started talking about Ampere, now it's Turing? too many code-names for the same gen of nvidia videocards lol

AnzialThe thought is that the codenames may separate a mining only card(Turing or Ampere), a consumer GPU (Turing or ampere), and an AI/enterprise card (Volta).
Either way, the new GPU's are coming.
Soon.

OldmanianYou must have forgotten what happened at the launch of the 10 series, price gouging because of shortages.

QuezicotlI got a 1080 FE at launch. No gouging, just a 3 week wait. Bear in mind that nVidia usually doesn’t allow the sale of anything but the FE cards they first few weeks after launch. So yes, there may be a delay, but I’m not sure about gouging as that’s going to be a reflection mostly of miners and nevtvgen memory shortages. Neither is known at this point.
i stand by my original comment.

OldmanianTo get 1080 FE at launch was difficult. You prolly spammed F5 day and night to get it at MSRP.

AnzialNot really. Maybe I got lucky, but that wasn't my experience (F5 hawking). Squabbling about the next gen launch is sort of not central to the issue.
If you NEED a GPU then this is merely another option at a price that is very much the same as you'll see on ebay. It's not a particularly great and the wait doesn't make it any better.
If you don't NEED a GPU then you're better off waiting another month or so, when much more will be known.
Anyone considering this is either better off buying an EVGA card that offers better value and a possible pathway to the next GPU and quicker availability or simply waiting for the announcement when at the very least, the 1080ti becomes less $$.
But let me take a step back. Can you tell me why this drop is a good deal and for who? I don't see it, but I'm sure I could be missing something.

It's outlined at that link and is an EVGA exclusive. I've used it in the past and it was really great.

OldmanianI'm not saying this deal is good either. But I seriously doubt that you'll see the next gen videocards within the next 3 months. 6 months is possible, but unlikely. Point is - sure you can buy one from EVGA but there's no guarantee that'd you'd be able to step up to the next gen within 90 days.
