Like everyone is saying, it's already cheaper, and prices will only go down. Ebay will be full of of these video cards for half this price. List price has no bearing on computer tech that is this old especially now that demand is way less than before. This would have been decent 6+months ago, but now, there's no reason someone should pay this much with huge price drops on the horizon.

cathedralmurderWhere'd you get that number from? I know they'll be fast but 35% is nice jump from where their at right now.

cathedralmurderAh a leak, but it could be true, and that MSRP of $500 will hopefully also be true. Makes paying anything around that price silly for current video cards. Some people are going to be pretty upset in a month.

MastermungYeah, but it's gotta an improvement, right? 1080 is faster than the 980, and the 1070ti. Initial pricing close to what it use be before the mining craze. Hopefully it will be official soon. Either way there's much more sales lately, and prices are dropping.

ShowtimeSure, I have no doubt it’ll pump out more frames than the previous generation to the tune of 5-10%. But I already have a 1080ti that I’m almost certain is napping most of the time, even when I’m pushing it with all the eye candy turned on. I guess my point is unless you absolutely must have the latest generation, the 10 series is still a great card.

MastermungNo doubt. The 1080ti is king until the 11 series ships.
That's not the point of these discussions. The point is that it's not a good time to buy one now that prices are dropping, especially with the launch of a new line. I honestly wouldn't buy a 1080ti right now unless I could get it for under $500. I'm starting to see some going for $550ish on ebay, but those miner cards... I got time at least until I find a deal on a decent 4k monitor. Can't wait for official announcement/sales.

ShowtimeFair point. I just question the need to have the latest and greatest, when we still aren’t pushing the current generation. Because you know there are those that trade up every year.

MastermungYeah, and they might have introduced this new line sooner if it weren't for mining. They were selling these 2 year old gpu's as fast as they could make them for almost a full year. No reason to bring out new cards when sales were so good, and the competition being so weak. ATI also better have some improved tech soon because Intel is getting into the graphics game. Intel missed out on the mining craze, but could eventually give them both a run.

MastermungYep, Intel can be a real beast in the GPU game if they choose to. Just gotta hope AMD, and NVIDIA can stick it out for the long haul so there's no monopoly. It was bad enough with 2 competing GPU companies the last few years.
