I'm interested in the 8.5 inch Dragon Fusion Nakiri. What's the difference between this Dragon Fusion and the Yaxell Dragon Fusion apart from different logo, a simpler handle design and made in China vs Japan ? Is it the same profile, thickness and weight etc. ?
WholeMilkThe main difference is that this knife is 2.5mm thick and the Yaxell version is 3mm thick. Also I correct a mistake on the handle, this knife has a G-10 handle, not micarta. The profile and overall dimensions are the same, but since this knife has a slightly slimmer blade it weighs a little less than the other fusion.

kstokleyOne other question: How is the warranty for this knife covered, is it through Massdrop or directly via Apogee ? And how long is it ?

kstokleyIts also made in china, which begs the question of how much worse the qc is. The yaxell had terrible grinds to say the least, and the hrc was nothing special. It claimed to be 63 after ht, but that grinding would lower(which only happens when you constantly over heat the steel, which also causes more issues like grain growth. These knives are not good and sadly apogee has marketed to people who don't know good from bad knives and it works for them
DakotaWillisonThese days on the internet, there are good reviews and bad reviews. A good review is not necessarily positive, but it is based on personal experience of someone using one of our products. If they don’t like it then as the owner of the company, I will move heaven an earth to make it right. Then there are reviews that make allegations with no first hand knowledge. The only way I can respond to a review like this is to list actual facts based on the truth and let the readers decide.
1. YAXELL has been making knives since 1932. They have been reviewed thousands of times and are universally conaidered one of the best knife factories in the world. Apogee is proud to have them make our knives for us. 2. YAXELL does indeed sharpen the right side of the knife with a wider bevel than the left. They shoot for a 60/40 split, but it is done by hand and can be as much as 70/30. This is their signature edge. They believe it gives the edge a little more strength, and we agree with them. However this will not cause the knife to roll in when in use and does not mean it is a right handed knife. It performs equally well in both hands. 3. All mass production knife makers including YAXELL flood every blank with coolent as they are being ground. So the theory expressed above simply is inaccurate. 4. Both Yaxell and my Chinese factory heat treat the BD1N steel to 63HRC using the heat treat specs provided by Carpenter. 5. All knives loose hardness after grinding. Each knife responds differently based upon thickness of the steel and shape. There is no consistent formula. We are preparing a video that will show exactly how HRC works and how it is tested. Stay tuned. Hopefully it will dispel many of the myths out there. 6. Apogee has sold thousands of knives to Massdrop, and has never had a dragon returned. We have to date Recieved exactly two knives that needed to be straightened. We repaired them and returned them in 24 hours. 7. In the last two years Apogee has sold over 70,000 knives. We average one to two knives per month due to MNFG error. 8. I’ve been in the knife industry for over 30 years and have worked for and been trained by some of the best knife makers and factories in history.
At at this point it seems obvious that you dont actually own any of our products. So I will issue you this challenge. Buy the knife and if you dislike it for any reason I will personally buy it back. If I’m wrong and you do have one contact me through our website and I will personally take care of you.

Deaomega1214These are all bold claims and I don't want to get banned arguing with you. I will say that these books you always write as a response to anyone who says a bad word about your knives, is why they sell. You are a good marketer and salesmen.

DakotaWillisonDakota, I have never used any of these knives (Dragon series) and it seems you've used the ones from Yaxell, but all you do is go on and spew misinformation about poor Chinese quality. With all due respect, you are a custom knife maker and you should really only been commenting on things you use, not speculating everywhere. It's possible that this Chinese made series of knives may be the worst knives ever, but that shouldn't be something coming from you. You're simply tarnishing your own reputation here. Either way, I don't intend to buy this but I read the comments frequently and your comments here stand out as misinformed bias.
