Want to try out tubes , really hear Bing sing 'White Christmas', just a bit after Christmas...? Well here is your SET amp entry point, in the next size up from the APPJ PA0901A (Gemtune) that I have, a bit more power, allowing more flexibility in speakers. Well made enough and more room inside than the smaller brethren, if you do want to upgrade caps;) If this were available for my limited space/budget requirements, I would have grabbed one back then. Some Mundorf SGO's and Elna Silmic II's, some NOS tubes, and my "little baby" sings, this will too, with a tad more punch. APPJ has the resistor adapter for cans, but you should go to the APPJ 1502A, sometimes here on MD for pure, budget minded, but well made SE tubes/cans rig. Missing inside pics:
rastussorry just to be clear, you are recommending the APPJPA1502A (you'd think they'd just give 'em names at that point) for people who are looking to use an amp mainly for cans?
this is at my price point, but i only use cans.
TheIzzardKingYes, the 1502A is the one for cans, I have one, not recommending the can adapter either here, passive speakers for this entry SET amp only.
Yes, poor marketing in the alphanumeric names, just give them a name or a three digit number '502', and I would give this a C for packaging/presentation, they could do better even at this price point; which should be more like $249.98 on MD to make it work.
My eye is now on the 336 OTL, where to hear one though...?
The headphone adapter from APPJ looks like this and adds $70+, not recommending this route if only because of cost/another box/cables/resistors:
rastusI've been looking for one of these, but $70 ($99 for the hifiman) seems steep. Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality speaker to headphone adapter?
