Apple is probably dumping these due to getting rid of there headphone jack on the upcoming model. This is not the first place I've seen them for cheap

JunkMailTwelveApple would be absolutely stupid to dump the headphone jack. Companies like to leak ideas to see if people like it. So far people don't like it but on the other hand, if someone wants to make headphones for their product, they will need a specific license. It's just money.

NeenerManWell Apple did aquire Beats headphones and I can see them pushing the Bluetooth version of those. As well as selling a pricey adapter for those who still want the 3.5 jack.

NeenerManThe best outcome of dropping the headphone jack is that it will force companies to improve wireless headphones. The same thing will happen with USB-C thanks to Macbook. Everyone will whine now, and it will be a hassle to carry around dongles, but in the end if everybody embraces USB-C and wireless I will be a happy camper. If you look at other bleeding edge Android phones they are shipping with a USB-C port, and sometimes no headphone port either. If in 2 years no phones have a headphone jack then even high-end audio brands like the ones here on Massdrop will start finding out how to push the same quality through wireless cans, sounds good to me!

kartiksathappanBluetooth headphones also require their own DAC and amplifier, making headphones cost more. Your theory is pretty solid but bluetooth tech, batteries, DACs and amps in eadphones. Typically bluetooth headphones use low resistance drivers which can sound good and bad. Most companies use a 32ohm driver, most reputable companies use above 32 unless it's in portable applications. Fostex has a headphone using a 25 ohm driver. Resistance of a dynamic driver basically says how hard it is to get the cone or dome to move and how fast it will return to rest. To summarize, Apple will want something clean, flush looking and not bulky. So small components. Small components, small power (mostly due to battery limitations), small driver and very low power. It's a challenge.

NeenerManExactly! It's not going to happen for a while but once you remove something to fall back on (headphone jack) innovation will occur at a faster rate (in an ideal world) lol
