That has to be overpriced. Who in their right mind would that that much money for such shitty specs?

ShalakazaamMany productivity driven reasons to buy Apple computers. Optimization of software and hardware that is brought by Apple is immense for video editing as well as music production.
Macbook Pro 15' running Final Cut either smoke or come level to workstation grade DESKTOPS running Premiere in basically all measurable ways.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P5UWEKSUXo
This video shows the power of Apple productivity with Final Cut due to optimization of hardware, OS, and software. If you tried to run Premiere on the Macbook Pro, it just wouldn't keep up - just goes to show to one of the reasons why the price tag is justifiable on Apple products.
Doesn't matter if you take all the roids in the world, still have to time your swing right to hit a home run.
Other reasons include but are not limited to: - Apple Eco System and interconnectivity with other devices (example: being able to use Apple music to gather all my music for my Macbook Pro, Phone, and iPad Pro) - Apple store: Everything is under one roof and they're international + abundant, making it easier to get reliable servicing done and receive technical help (in my personal case I've had free repairs done out of warranty in which my laptop was a brick and would've cost $2000+ because I was took drunk and decided that my laptop needed my glass of water, not myself) - Easier to use for people who aren't as knowledgeable about more detail intensive aspects about using a computer
Many reasons not to buy an Apple product as well.
There's a reason why I run my GTX 1080 in a desktop PC and not in a GPU docking system w/ my Macbook Pro; they are horrible to game on - just absolutely terrible. Apple made it clear a long time ago that they don't care about gaming, and that's okay. Also, I don't get the satisfaction of building my own computer by going with an Apple product - sure I could make a hackintosh, but like I said earlier, it is about the optimization that Apple provides... and you're not exactly getting the full effects of that with a hackintosh.
Yeah - people as an overall are pretty stupid, but aluminium casings and brand appeal isn't the only reason why Apple is one of the world's largest corporations, they back it up in their end product that comes in a neat and tidy complete package.

sekhonsurely, you can build a PC for the same price as a newer Macbook which is on par with the latter in respect to video editing? additionally, is it even really necessary to use Final Cut as your video editor? my response to your other reason, the apple ecosystem, everything under one roof so to speak, is simply iTunes bro lol or is apple music exclusive to apple products?

ShalakazaamLol. Apple music is just one example, but you can use apple music on a desktop pc. iMessage, Apple Music, iCloud... etc. the list goes on.
There are reasons to buy Apple and very valid ones. The video shows one. Yes, you can get more horsepower if you build your own PC, but it doesn't even matter when you compare an Apple PC or Laptop with Final Cut and a workstation grade desktop with top tier specs and Adobe Premier... like the video just shows how much better using an Apple produced PC with an Apple produced app like Final Cut is compared to other solutions.
"Is it even necessary to use Final Cut as your video editor?" ... No - is it necessary for me to use Adobe Premier for my video editing?
Is it necessary for me to use Gmail? Is it necessary for me to get my food from Thriftys? Is it necessary for me to use Ableton instead of Logic Pro?
Everyone has preferences based on reason and fact. It is just a fact that Apple declared a long time ago they wanted to focus on productivity in certain aspects and one of them is video editing. Windows is a lot better to game on and certain productivity tasks are done well on there.

sekhonthe question was rhetorical to prove a point. personal preference isn't necessarily a matter of fact. but all of that apple stuff can be done on a PC. i just dont see how paying $700 for an i5 chip with a 1.6GHz base speed, among the other specs, is even near worth it. there's no way those specs would be able to handle final cut or much of anything that you throw at it

ShalakazaamIt just seems you only want to bash on Apple and glossed over any point I made in their favour.
Ex. Warranties and reliability of everything being under one roof.
So, I ask you... "Are you going to respond to my comment? lol"

ShalakazaamI just realized that you don't know anything about the difference of Laptops vs Desktops even... so this whole exercise is wasted on you. Laptops use different chips than desktops that run at low clock speeds unless they need to boost up to desktop level specs to preserve battery. Lol. Bye now.

sekhonLast thing I have to say is this... "Apple stuff can be done on a PC."
Oh, sorry... I didn't know you couldn't do PC stuff on an Apple PC! How silly of me.

sekhonthat, and that they're supposedly easier to use for non-technical users, are the only 2 points i hadn't responded to. i'm not "only wanting to bash apple", but it's just that apple products are notoriously overpriced and this specific deal is an insult to consumers

sekhonof course they use non-desktop chips because of the form factor... but an i5 1.6 GHz dual core chip? not much computing power there...

So yes, this laptop has more than enough computing power. Seriously, I am done here now. Bye.

sekhon Please show me how that laptop would perform in a CAD environment. Much commonly used software like Solidworks won't even run on MacOS. Needless to say the competitor Autdesk loves fast hardware. And it might be a nice product if the Thunderbolt port was enabled for external GPUs (wich it isn't). Also, how are you supposed to do *real* 4K editing work if this thing has a mere 128GB of storage and does not feature a fast ethernet connection to upload your data to a NAS? Edit: Why would you do 4K editing on a screen that is not even capable of FHD?

fischeleIs the whole point of all this lost on everyone?
Different systems excel at different things. I don't even know any Solidworks or CAD ready computer that can even do such work with 8GB of RAM, I thought they would just crash on launch.
And is there not such a thing as an external HDs? external monitors?
Name a windows based laptop that could even handle CAD or Solidworks at this price point with similar build quality.
I'm sorry my hockey stick can't throw a football mate.
