Current Set Up with Arozzi Arena Desk and Massdrop Flex Chair
search
So far, it's excellent. The desk is very sturdy in my opinion and there is absolutely no monitor wobble or movement of any sort. When assembling, you need to have the desktop backwards to place the legs/frame onto the underside of the desktop. After you screw the legs and frame in, you then need to flip the desk over to actually use it. Well, when doing that, the right leg kind of dragged at an angle because I didn't lift it enough and that loosened the four bolts that attach the leg to the foot of the leg that sits on the floor. I put my PC on the right side of the desk and it was extremely wobbly.
If this happens to you, you just have to unfortunately (due your error, or my error in this case) flip it back so the legs are once again pointing up, tighten the bolts and then flip the desk back over. After I had done this, it became extremely solid. I know one of the Arozzi members claimed a 200 pound person stood on the desk to change a light, I would definitely believe that -- even if I'm sure neither of us recommend you do that! Will anybody ever have 200 pounds of equipment on the desk? I sure hope not, but I do have a fair amount of things on my desk and it handles them fine. I also had a dual, vertical monitor mount with both monitors on the center and it held them fine. I did put a scrap piece of 2x4 between the desk and monitor clamp though. I did attach the mount to the desk itself and not through the grommet cut out, which is a weaker point in the desk but everything was fine. There was a bit of wobble but I don't think that's entirely avoidable given how tall the mount is.
This really is a great desk and for $199.99 it's an excellent buy. The only comparable desk would be a Bekant from Ikea but like somebody from Arozzi stated - no net and no ginormous mouse pad. Also, you're restricted to being near an Ikea for local pick up or a very high shipping fee that knocks the Bekant out of the discussion. And very quickly, since I mentioned the net - it does its job and could hold and conceal my excessive cables I normally have tidied up with my Ikea Sigmum rack. The net sags and cables may pop out here and there, especially if you have a lot of power cables with attached bricks, but I couldn't see the cables while standing in front of the desk so the net still does the job very well. I think a slightly wider net with maybe two more mounting points would make it absolutely perfect - but it's still a great thing to have, I just had my Sigmum rack and figured I had nowhere else to put it so I stuck it under the Arena desk. To avoid drilling into the desk, I just used two heavy duty, adhesive velcro pads.
The only thing worth mentioning as a potential con (besides some chips on the underside of the desk that occurred during shipping) is this: if you freak out over dust, then a black cloth surface might be very difficult to handle. I've been lint rolling this thing every day and using coasters and not eating on my desk at all to try to avoid getting it dirty or crumby. I've had large, fabric mouse mats that are like 36" in length and 20" in width and they eventually get dirty but of course to wash that, I just take my keyboard off. Something this big that gets daily use is more than likely going to get dirty and need a good washing and yes it's machine washable, but you will have to remove ALL your stuff off the desk to clean it so try to be as clean as possible. I guess 1 or 3 clean ups a year should keep it fine and hopefully the mouse/desk pad holds up well but only time will tell.
The desk really is great and I'm sorry for typing so much but I haven't seen many buyers sharing their opinions. I have pretty high desk standards since my old desk was screwed into three wall brackets I made out of oak and then attached to three studs in my wall with three 3" bolts in each bracket. My other desk was a 6 ft. Karlby then Linmon top from Ikea on two Alex drawers with a leg in the center. I felt my stuff was very secure with both of those desks, experienced no wobble and never had that regretful, "I guess my desk is a piece of crap and now I have to live with it," feeling. While this desk isn't sturdier than something screwed into the foundation of my house (obviously) it's still incredible and I love it. Try not to sweat assembly issues if you encounter any and everything should be fine. Besides one relatively small hiccup when building it, everything was extremely easy. Just keep in mind when the instructions say keep screws loose, it means loose , if they're not loose enough it might impede things fitting where they should so just remain calm and everything will work out.
