Damn.......this might be the one that makes me find out if their Ti models are that much better than their budget models...... That's pretty damn sexy Do wish it was a lower riding clip though

SinisterCainOh hey! Didn't know we had the actual designer in here, nice 😁 Really beautiful piece man 👍 Yeah, that's not terrible or anything, i just generally lean towards "no show" / "low rider" kind of clips when I can get them. Not a deal breaker, but need to think on it for a day or two for budgeting reasons.

SinisterCainMost important question I have, how is the detent on this one? Can you shake it open without touching the flipper? This is a major concern for many people in areas with ridiculously flexible definitions of "gravity assisted opening" laws. And my only other experience with Artisan Knives, on one of their budget models, was that it shakes open without much effort at all

SinisterCainI had one more, posted above, regarding detent. Just pointing it out because we kind of cross posted and you may have missed the additional alert......not because I'm trying to be a pain 🤣

Kavikno problem, and nooo, i cannot gravity open this knife, with a lot of crazy unnecessary force yes. the detent is very strong, the hole in the blade is almost not functional, more of a lightening hole. thumb opening is almost not an option for me, and middle finger flicking can be done but its hard. then again maybe my smalls hands play a part in the thumb opening lol. i have videos on instagram and facebool

SinisterCainWell hello and thanks for making yourself available for answering our questions it's definitely one of the coolest things about taking part in the whole Massdrop experience. I actually have small to medium sized hands so as much as I love the look of this one I think I might pass were it's a 3.8" blade. My question is do you ever think Massdrop and you may do a smaller version of this or even just a smaller model in the future sometime? Trevor

T.willyyoure welcome! and small to medium hands should do well, in all honesty since its light and thin it doesnt seem as big as it is, it comes in under 4oz. and ive been told a small version depends on how well these do.

SinisterCainAround here I can get away with "only with crazy unnecessary force", unfortunately that's still a no go for many (like in NYC), but man, it's hard to find flippers that can't shake no matter what, i only have a few myself So, I guess your answer didn't justsave me $200 lol but good to hear, I'll continue thinking it over, thanks again 👍

SinisterCainThank you for your quick response. I was thinking were it's so light and narrow it just may be a great one for me to try out. Best part is these knives sell on the second hand market for 80% easy if you don't find it's your thing. Yep that's it I think I just talked myself into it lol. Thanks again I'll definitely be hoping for more models the future. ✌

SinisterCainHi again, one more question, not really relevant to this drop, but... Did Artisan give you details as to what steels are used in the core and the cladding of the Damascus version of this knife?

SinisterCainUnfortunately, I didn't have the same experience with the detent on mine. Middle finger flick is definitely possible, which I like.... But it's very easy to wrist flick open (not ideal) Here's the thing though, i think I know why, but it's a weird one... The detent ball and hole engage very firmly, better than most maybe. But the lockbar has a LOT of sideways flex, allowing the blade to move before the detent ever releases. Pulled out the feeler guages: With the knife closed i measured a .039" gap directly behind the screw for the lockbar insert. Carefully pressing the flipper tab to add pressure, but not open it, that gap grows to .0565" before it finally pops open. Which doesn't sound big, but since that's measured like half an inch away from the pivot... At the far end of the blade, this happens :

That's how far I can move the blade before the detent ball releases from the hole. Have a few more comments I'll put in when I have time to write up a review (mostly very positive, couple of little negatives), but wanted to share that one with you directly first. Seemed like the biggest thing, and was a follow up to something we already talked about

KavikThat's one for the weird column all right. 😞 Do you think it's something you can fix yourself or is it somthing your going to need to return your knife for?

T.willyIt's definitely not fixable. It's related to the shape/width of the lockbar, i would assume. On the fence about what to do about it, because I like so many other things about the knife. Between this, and a weird blemish on the flipper, I'd consider exchanging if that were a possibility, but being massdrop...I don't know yet if I want to do a flat out return without an exchange option. Really didn't even notice it was doing this until I went looking for a reason such a solid feeling detent could still shake open so easy. My guess is it must be doing this on other's knives as well, but you don't really feel it during a normal quick flip unless you're looking for it

T.willyDid you end up getting one? If so, could you test it out on yours? Just pressing the flipper real slow and steady to see if the tip is exposed before the detent releases

KavikActually I never did end up pulling the trigger on that one sorry. I bought a Burg Blades Iron Pup off the BladeForums Exchange instead if my memory serves me correctly. Then earlier this week I ordered one of those Production versions of the Lacionco EZC from Monterey Bay knives. I've been hoping to hear there's going to be a small version of the MD/FF Keen forever now so when I got a look at that EZC It was a done deal lol.😂

mine comes out just a little certainly not as much as yours. I can’t flick mine but I can’t usually flick knives that are mainly flippers.

KavikI will say since the lock bar is somewhat long. It does move a little bit. i hope that doesn’t become issue. But I definitely look forward to hear whatelse you have to say after you have time to pocket it! Also thank you for buying one!

SinisterCainI dunno man, there's gotta be something more to it. I just checked 15 other Ti framelocks here. 8 have lockbars cut as long or longer. Of those, only one comes close to moving as much as this one, and that was a cheap ass TwoSun knife that I think i paid around $50 for. And even that one doesn't move enough to expose the tip while the detent is still engaged. I wonder if Artisan uses a lower grade / softer titanium?

KavikI’m not sure exactly. Usually they don’t skimp out. but I will agree that’s quite a distance before the detent breaks. Mine are close to Erhon. They do come out a little if I’m slowly pressing. But if it’s a normal open it’s not an issue. And I’ve been carrying these since November everyday
