dsmit125For those of us new to massdrop, but interested in this drop, can you explain what you are referring to? Was there a prior A&K drop that didn't actually get fulfilled?

jmesbergDropped very close to this price 2 years ago. Drop only lasted an hour or so and was closed. MD informed buyers that they were not able to fulfill orders, but they really just couldnt get the product at the price they promised their buyers and instead of fulfillimg orders at a loss, MD backed out of its obligation amd left the buyers hanging.
Whats worse, in the weeks waiting for this previous drop to be fulfilled, I bought a $150 balanced cable that was useless once they cancelled our orders. Still salty.

dsmit125What about fool me three times? After the shame on you, shame on me... or 4,5, or 100x... Honestly, u should have waited until you had the product in hand before buying the balanced cable. Then you probably wouldn't be so "salty" 2 years later....

dsmit125Ya sure. Seems like you could use some.
dsmit125Probably a “too good to be true” price on liquidation inventory that broke MAP agreements, and Massdrop HAD to back out if they ever wanted to deal with AK directly in the future. Same thing happened with a Chord Mojo drop. All the many AK drops today means they must have repaired that relationship. Hopefully you eventually got something to use that 2.5mm cable with, or better yet returned/sold the cable? Personally, after working as a phone repair tech and seeing so many broken 3.5mm plug tips broken off inside headphone jacks in my +4.5 years, I’d never buy into 2.5mm, and I’m happy with the 4.4mm Pentaconn on my Sony ZX300A, Sennheiser HDV 820 desktop DAC/Amp, and HD 800 custom cable. At least you didn’t buy a $500 custom IEM that didn’t fit, what can I do with that? Lol! Best of luck man, enjoy the music 🙂

EvshrugMaybe people are obnoxiously abusive. But I've generally sought out phones that had headphone jacks because I still like to use my headphones. I've been pretty rough on headphones, and music players in the past but I've never considered THAT the weak point. Cables I've seen break or become worn at the plug but never just seen a plug snap off. That's just down right impressive.
bigtoepferI miss my iPhone 6S, and breaking it never happened to me, but working at an Apple Store I saw so many broken plugs. Sure, not nearly as many as I saw frayed lightning cables right where the strain relief ends (people sitting their phones on the cable), but it taught me that if you bump something, snag on something, or fall, it could happen. I still prefer to game with wired headphones, for sure. The latency of wireless is still distracting, though I haven’t tried aptX low latency while gaming yet (because I mainly game on my PS4 and iPad).

EvshrugSame, I rarely game on PC anymore. I'm still ancient when it comes to audio. Every now and then I get an email from massdrop(drop?) about new DAPs and I consider jumping back in. Still regret selling my ipod classic years ago. Used to just sit in my car plugged in to the stereo. HA. But a number of times I almost pulled the trigger on a Fiio. I'm just looking at another trans-Pacific flight soon and wishing I had hours and hours of music like I used to. I just recently gave up the headphone jack in favor of better camera Pixel 3 instead of Xperia XZ Premium with tons of music storage. I guess thats why I've never gotten one because I've had Xperias for the last few phones and just kept moving my micro SD card. This Sony ZX300 looks enticing though. Might have to look in to that. Give me a reason to buy new cans too.
bigtoepferLoving mine so far. I was also considering the Acoustic Research M200, which also had a pentaconn balanced out (and 3.5mm), bluetooth in and out, and MicroSD storage, however this Sony beats it for battery runtime, and the UI is so much better, while the AR M200 is best used with your phone streaming to it or your phone acting as a remote control. I borrowed one on a trip to CanJam NYC, but the night I had it in my hands I fell asleep as soon as I hit the mattress, LOL! I had an iPod Classic die because I left it in the heat of the car, btw. I thought the “shade” and insulation of a glove box would somehow keep it cooler, but it was more like a hot box and the iPod came out of there uncomfortably warm to the touch. Heat destroys batteries more than cold (permanent vs temporary damage, also heat damages electronics).

EvshrugOh I'm sure. It lasted a year no problems. Eventually just sold it because I wasn't gonna need it anymore for whatever reason. My brother then sold it later. I have had batteries die in the cold though. Leave a laptop in the truck -20F and wake up the next morning not only does it not want to power on, but the screen is extra slow. HA. Only did that once.
