I had such a bad experience with iRiver before it became astell and kern regarding the warranty of a defective $80 mp3 player. I could never imagine purchasing something this expensive from this company knowing that after the initial purchase I'd be in my own. Especially at $1700.

headphoneguruYep. Changing iRiver to European-sounding name doesn't change their sound quality one bit. The cost of manufacturing this thing is under $200, the rest is tax on stupid. Before I am accused of bashing this thing, I can tell you that I listened to most (not all) of their top of the line offerings and I don't consider it worth the money, period.

headphoneguruA friend of mine had his AK100 die days before the warranty ran out. AK did accept the unit and said they repaired it. It does power up but the SQ is abysmal. He is less than impressed with the service as the unit should have been fully tested and shown to be back to factory specs before returning a warranty repaired unit to the customer. Now he is going back and forth with AK to have it properly repaired. At least his old iPod works well...

Dr4Bob"A friend", "It does power up but the SQ is abysmal."
Abysmal sound quality? How the hell do you justify that? Okay, maybe the device died on him, but these statements about SQ you make have no credibility. It's obvious that you and your "friend" has no idea how a quality MP3 player works. These little devices play back 24bit, 96kHz, Mastering Quality sound. I own a AK100 and a good set of IEMs, unlike you.
I meet with people who own AK100s (and other models), and I've never once came across with a person who complained with sound quality. Although, it's not surprising to see people bashing on these things without any solid reason, because it's so easy to shit on high-priced devices like these :p

illiI do not justify that, I am merely quoting an actual owner of an AK product.
I am quite satisfied with a diyMod (Blackgate caps, ssd) and listen with Shure 535 and Ety ER4s (an often cited reference) so your snarky comment is without any merit.
I doubt you could tell much difference between 24/96 "Mastering Quality" sound vs. Redbook; your comments sound like that of a sales brochure...
Incidentally, AK has in the interim repaired the player to the owner's satisfaction. I find no difference in quality of the AK player vs my diyMod, both externally amped.
It is fine for you to be a Fanboy- no need to be a dick, though...
