Better let them re-release the best seller AK120 Titan!

i was heard, almost all in my community, told, that this DAP, is beater by cowon, do u agree? have u ever to compare?
Someone should Start a Voting Poll for the Astell & Kern AK Junior! In Australia the RRP is AU$699 but in the states it's US$499! Maybe there's a chance for a real bargain on Massdrop for both Australians and Americans!
Yeah, don't get the Head-Fi policy on this (I've read it, but still seems weird), but they do take it really seriously, so I realized I better not post.

i think their sponsors doesn't like the competing prices given by group deals kind, hence why head-fi are banning those links... politics in the forums =P
No argument about diminishing returns, takes big expenditures to get small improvements after a sweet spot...all depends how much the small improvements are worth to you, ymmv. Just sayin...

Lol I saw u accidentally posted in head fi deal thread on this but removed it Good thing otherwise a ban and a closed down would have taken place :p
To be completely honest i've tried the RWAK100 and for the price I wasn't too impressed... I mean yeah it sounds good but i wouldn't pay that much for it. I think the FiiO X3 although not on par, is quite close to it in terms of sound quality and comes at a fraction of the cost
just my opinion you may / may not disagree
Error, committed to buy at the $549 price...I hear some recommend the RWA mod for the output impedence, if the buy comes off, I would try it first, consider that if seemed I needed to. Supposed to be a great sounding player (only worth buying if that's a priority, of course, which it isn't to everyone).
Yes if there is one major flaw on this player its the stupid high impedance output. I had to use their pro eq and boost feature to get back my bass... And I agree the price is on the high side. If you asked me, this DAP real vakue should only be around $400-$500.
OK, committed for the $599 price, see who else is in, if this thing really happens.
I hardly ever have a use for a portable player anymore unfortunately, otherwise I'd love to pick this up and send it off to Red Wine Audio to do their RAK100-S mod on it.
I would buy a good smartphone at this maasive prive for Audio player....just insane pricing....:( :(
I admire your enthusiasm, but you are not leaving room for critique where critique is due. A&K skimped on storage space, plain and simple. It could sound as good as my home setup and I'm not sure I would be sold. The question remains: if they can afford to put a high-end portable amp and DAC on the board and slap a $700 price tag on it, perhaps they should consider who they are selling this to.
Lossless audio takes up a *lot* of space. To be pedantic, if you were to fill this device with audio representative of the claimed capabilities of its DAC, using only what they give you in the box, you would hit the wall with only ~140 songs to listen to.
Too petty? Let's say you keep a much more realistic 24/96. You can fit ~440 songs at that quality. But let's be fair. It's expandable (cards not included, MSRP $40), so we can fit a lot more 24/192 songs on there. For only $740 MSRP, you can hold a whopping 430 songs in your pocket.
I hope I'm not being unreasonable. It's just that A&K made a new product that can't out-horde 5-year-old tech (at 3x the price). That seems pretty unreasonable to me.

Alright. Fair enough. It truly does sound fantastic though.
Looks interesting to me, at the lower price...not a tremendous bargain, but still, what's supposed to be a premier player if the reviews are to be believed, for a better price. Anyone ever compare it to the Fiio X3?
pricey, and not worth it.
next.
So so price. China has AK100 LTD, which brings better sound quality rather than the normal one for around $600. If buy from gray market, it will be lower than $500. How could this be a deal? wondering.
If you guys can get the iBasso DX50. I would jump on it.
Joebobbillyfrank
yup. +1
I suppose I don't understand why an iPod from 2008 has 20% (32 GB) more stock storage than this brand new "audiophile" product which, at its cheapest, costs 2.4 times as much as that 2008 iPod (retail, it costs over 3 times as much). These prices don't include the cost of the two high-capacity storage cards the AK100 needs to reach the lofty heights of a portable music player from 5 years ago.
If there's one thing you shouldn't be skimping on in an audiophile's music player, it's space. There are plenty of iDevice amps and DACs that, while costly, look great. I would imagine it is more expensive for a manufacturer to include a high-quality onboard amp and DAC than it is for them to include high-capacity onboard storage. With a price tag of $600, I should hope I'd be buying both.
I'm not saying the iPod is perfect. On the contrary, there is a lot of room for improvement. So why should I take steps backward in tech while taking steps upward in price?

Have you ever heard the AK100?
@dqniel & @Anfield & @Lapper If you have been following all the DAP products in headfi, you would know that the storage is not limited to 32g SD cards. You can also use 64gig ones, which brings to a total of 160gig. When the 128gig micro sd cards are released, they should be able to work with the AK100 as well. Unlike iPods where storage is limited to internal, you can always buy extra SD cards to carry around. They are tiny after all. And the main purpose of an Audiophile DAP is firstly Sound Quality. Storage will be after that, and i can assure you the sound quality in iPods are nothing compared to this.
For those who prefers a cheaper but comparable options, you can try X3 or DX50. Unfortunately for those, the storage space are very much lower than the AK100.
I already own the AK100 and X3, if the AK120 comes to Massdrop with a significant discount, i'd consider getting one since i love the build quality, aesthetics and UI in the AK series.
Would join if it is AK120
Soooo pricey. I'll consider it.
Anyone know if iRiver has had any major changes in their business structure? I've been very intrigued by this player as a long time user of the old H120 and H320 line, but I had two miserable experiences with iRiver support that turned me away from them.
Interested, but poor timing for me.

I think I'm save to say that you made the right decision on buying a new set of tires over and music player! :)

Haha, well after having driven on them for a couple years, I'm pretty happy with them. I had never used stud-less winter ties, but I'm pretty well sold on them.
