Has anyone gotten a decent patina on their copper flashlights? It almost seems like it is varnished. It is still shiny as on day one...

ABergh10I haven't seen any patina form on mine either. If it is copper, it is acting like it is coated with something...

Just wanted to share my experience with this product. I own an Aluminum and a Copper Astrolux A01 purchased from another site. I've edited this reply a number of times because I want to make clear I'm not just bashing the A01 but I wanted to share my thoughts. In spite of my frustrations with mode memory (see below), I actually use the A01 a lot because it is the cheapest "real" flashlight I own and I use it in conditions where I don't want to risk damaging/losing my other more expensive lights. Other owners of the A01 (either the newer or older versions with mode memory) have expressed similar opinion that it is one of those lights they can use without worrying about it, including lending or giving to others to use.
For some background, Astrolux is Banggood's own brand for flashlights and they outsource manufacturing to another manufacturer or manufacturers. They originally worked with a reputable company called Manker for the A01, but that has changed recently, probably around Sept of this year. I'm not sure what you will be sent now by Massdrop, but the original manufacturer is Manker, which makes the A01 with a very warm tint, no mode memory, and no PWM. My Copper A01 is a Manker product, but my A01 Aluminum is made by a different manufacturer, it has mode memory, and supposedly has PWM. The tint is also much colder than the previous Nichia tint even though it is still a Nichia 219. I'm not sure if this different manufacturer is better or worse than Manker, but the specs have definitely changed for the worse. The mode memory is pretty much a deal breaker: if you turn off the light on Medium, the next time you turn it on it is High (even if you wait say 2 hours). This means that if you want Medium again you have t ocycle through High, Low, Med. If you are on the 2nd cycle, you will cycle High, Low, Strobe, Low, Med to get back to Med. Very frustrating and very atypical of mode memory which should turn on at the last used brightness.
Now, although my Copper A01 was the better "Manker" one, it died after only 1 day of use and no drops. I found at least 1 other person owning the Copper A01 that had it die after a drop. I should add that the Copper A01 is much heavier than the Aluminum A01, so I'm not sure if that's related to how easily it died, because the Aluminum A01 has not had problems so far. I got a full refund on the Copper A01 so I'm satisfied, but it leaves me with 2 problems:
The newer A01 with PWM and mode memory is very frustrating to use, but has been very reliable so far and I like the price a lot. The Manker made A01 has a much nicer tint, no mode memory, no PWM, but it died far too easily.
For my money I've decided to stick with Maratac AAA and I might try Lumintop. Also of note is that the Maratac AAA design (while more expensive) has a very solid tailstand, while the A01 has a very small flat section of the tail while the rest is rounded. I can tailstand, but it is easy to knock it over.
I also noticed some others have indicated in this drop that the threads in the A01 were kind of poorly done. On both my A01's the threads are very smooth and easy to use. The aluminum non-Manker one was particularly smooth. Go figure.
Finally, despite these problems, and because of the support I got for the Astrolux from the other site, I'd be willing to try other models of Manker or Astrolux lights in the future.

TylerGot mine yesterday. Must say I was a bit let down upon opening the box. I like the styling , the mode gui, and the tint better than the Maratac AAA Cu (which I also own), but the finish and head to body design isn't as good. The Maratac seems to have cleaner machined threads as well as finer/longer threads.
The coarser threads of the Astrolux mean I have to unscrew the head further to prevent the light from activating via pressure inside my pocket. The shorter threads mean the head is at about the 50/50 point between being secured and falling off (disassembling in my pocket). The threads being machined poorly on a "twisty" flashlight means I feel slight grinding every time I activate the light.
At the price paid for a Cu flashlight the quality isn't terrible. Since Cu is softer, the threads may even smooth themselves out with use. The coarse threads and short overall length of threads appears to be an inferior design when compared to the Maratac.
By itself the light is very good. Compared to the Maratac, the light it provides is very good. Compared to the Maratac, the finish/design doesn't seem as good.
What I'm left with is two very good keychain flashlights that help illuminate why neither is perfect.

Ugh, another week delay.
Clearly "underpromise and overdeliver" is not a concept this vendor is familiar with.
