Well, right now these are a pretty good deal from what I could find. I found some between $450-500 at the lowest price.

andrew.bprice fluctuates regularly between 350 and 500 . If you check Amazon you'd notice it's not even listed at the moment.
P.S - Most people get these from the Yahoo Japan auction site. Can find them for as low as 300 , and quite often.

LQDForceI did check on amazon. They are there, just not listed as w1000x (for $500).
How does this auction site work? Does it mean they are used headphones?

andrew.bIt's just like ebay, except you need a middleman to bid/order (if you're outside of Japan). Used, new, like-new, etc.

andrew.bIt's kinda like craigslist, if you're asking this then I guess you should look elsewhere.
I got mine for 400 shipped , bought it a couple of months ago from a reputable online store in the U.S .
Here's hoping that the price could be further lowered if more people commit.

LQDForceYeah, I was eyeing them at that price too, coming from a pair of AD700s I got while in university, was curious about upgrading.
Here's hoping they don't go lower...I have no self-control :(
edit: might as well ask, what's your impression on them?

silloverall fantastic 'fun' cans, very musical and lively, they excelling in acoustic instruments. one of the best closed-back headphones out there. mids are great but really forward. kinda warm but balanced sound, great bass presence but still very detailed.
Had to switch out the earpads though, they get really uncomfortable after a while. I suggest getting REAL leather pads instead. HP-L3000 or L5000 are made by audio-technica for the higher end models and fit perfectly, if expensive ($100 . but half the price if you buy from Japan)

LQDForceInteresting, I didn't realize the pads weren't that great...
Any idea if the MrSpeakers Alpha Pads will fit these?

NinjaPirateno idea, they are quite unique in dimensions so i doubt it. try them on for a while after you get them, then decide if you'd like to replace the pads.
you can get them from audiocubes2 (super expensive) http://www.audiocubes2.com/product_info.php/cPath/27/products_id/458 http://www.audiocubes2.com/product_info.php/cPath/27/products_id/483 - or from some japanese vendors for half the price (don't know about shipping costs though) http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/acgearsjapan/hp-l3000.html http://www.soundhouse.co.jp/shop/ProductDetail.asp?Item=158%5EHPL3000%5E%5E also audio-technica japan- http://www.audio-technica.co.jp/atj/support/repair/repair_show.php?modelId=2130&repairMode=on

LQDForceInstead of paying $100 for a set of leather pads make your own imo surely materials aren't that expensive
