Yea...thinking about a Ciem at this price.
Wait a minute. Didn't Phonak stopped making these years ago?

I´m having a hard time understanding this drop. These were discontinued ages ago so this is essentially a very late clearance sale. The problem however is that these were very overpriced compared to the competition even back in the day, so now a sale price of 400$ is simply not very good value in my opinion. I had to double check my screen to make sure Massdrop is actually asking this much for them. I would say these are worth around 250$ max in today´s market.

250$ top if you thinkg that in the same price you get dunu DN2000 TOP SOUND....triple hybrids
If you are sensitive to treble, these are not for you. Beautiful headphones otherwise.

I wonder where I could buy it as it was discontinued and I am from EU. :| I will try to get in touch with PHONAKS CEO to revive this line or ask him to sell AUDEO technology to other companies.

This drop was activated twice here, but I didn't remember the final price and whether it's shipped to EU. There must be some stock in the market but need some time to find.
Are these being discontinued as is discussed below as well as on other boards?
I haven't done a direct comparison, but I have both the JVC woodies and these, like these better and have used them more.

Sibilance bothers me a lot. I find the Beyer 770(If you have heard them) extremely uncomfortable. Would you recommend these to me?
seamon
I don't find them personally unpleasant, in fact, I really like them. Only on a quick listen, focusing on cymbals, did I notice it. I don't know the 770, have the 1350 which sometimes bother me. The Hifiman 560's highs someone's bother me (though this is ameliorated by a good amp and good cables). I actually really like the Audeo, but, of course, YMMV...
Are these worth it say over something like JVC FX 850?

I haven't heard these IEMs but I have the FX850 woodies. They are a dynamic driver, and that plus the wood housing gives music a good bass bump and timbre you won't find in a balanced armature IEM. Depends on what kind of music or what sound you are looking for...i love my woodies but comfort wise I would say the 232s take the cake there.
mayorblurps
I listen to pop music and I would consider myself a basshead. I have the FX 850 and I was looking to upgrade.
I have been using these IEMs for more than 2 years now. They are secondary to my 64 Audio A12 , which I purchased only recently for $2000+. And the pfe232 give the A12 a run for their money in terms of comfort, treble extension and bass depth. I have never owned a better fitting IEM (they are more comfortable that my A12 customs). The sound signature is beautifully extended at the top, and by far the best in the price range (as good as the A12). The bass is deep, textured and full, especially when used with comply foam tips. The mid frequencies however are not especially pronounced, a bit recessed even. And that makes for excellent sound signature for electronic, indie pop, edm or dnb music. I am looking to purchase a second pair for when I break my current one, but I feel this drop is not a that good in terms of price for me since I already have a pair. But if you have at all been waiting for an IEM with amazing trebles, this would be it. Hope this helps.
What a bad idea for a drop... Not only there are plenty of choices out there, the price/drop just sucks hard.
My 2 cents.

I disagree. I own phonak audeo pfe 112 (lower rank product) and knowing what they were capable of producing at that price range i am looking to buy the pfe 232. I am only super sad i joined massdrop too late for this drop.
That being said, the phonaks i own i would not recommend for bass heavy genres. There they still hold their own, but you can do better. But for heavily instrumental music i am honestly not sure you can do better at this price range. It is such a shame they dropped out of iem market.
Wookiecfk
you disagree yet you contradict your statements (re-read your whole second paragraph). Please, go on and enjoy your purchase since it's your money. I'm just saying that the competition is pretty good out there, and plenty of bang for buck especially people did their research.

Shame on you
I have been lusting after a pair of these for years, but the price just isn't quite right. Still really sad that Phonak got out of the IEM game. I still consider my PFE 122's to be the best bang for the buck of any audio product I've ever purchased. It's really quite hard for me to criticize anything about it's sound signature.

It's probably the #1 reason I would skip out on this drop. Discontinued and Phonak going poof means it will be very difficult to get any replacement parts. After reading about the FLC8 I will consider going that route instead.
i was an idiot. in 2013 the PFE 232 was on clearance for around $250 i happen to be travelling so for quite a few months. so for whatever reason, i totally missed the announcement Phonark is quitting the consumer headphones business, took the sale as a sign the new models are coming up, and decided to wait. Now I want to to kick myself whenever the rare stock shows up :(
I was waiting for an SE535 drop to come back but this drop just screams to stay away with the negatives. One Head-Fi reviewer said "but not so good for travel due to poor isolation."
Pros 1. Everyone is raving about it's treble
Cons 1. Discontinued Product 2. Difficult to find ear tip replacements 3. Difficult to find cable replacements 4. Poor sound isolation 5. Terrible packaging with cable kinks 6. Cable is thin after Y split
Not sure what to do now. I saw the q-JAYS Reference IEM's and they are comparable in price with excellent build quality. Anyone have any experience with these 3? Probably going to look at more IEM's as I need a pair.
I really like mine...got them when they were on sale at Earphone Solutions for $299, have used them quite a bit. Seems there are many left over since Audeo stopped making them quite a while ago, from what I understand. They have replaced my custom acs Encores as most used iem at present (I go through phases...)
These are great sounding IEMs. It's too bad Phonak stopped making them. They are very clear, yet very musical. If anything, I'd prefer a little more weight in the mids, but these are among the best sounding IEMs I've heard. They sound great with the FiiO E12a and the Cypher Labs Picollo portable amps.
One thing that really annoyed me, though, is the way these are packaged. The earphones are mounted on a stiff paper card in the box to show them off. But they route the cables through some precut holes and channels in the paper, fold them down hard then wrap them underneath in order to hide them from the front. This results in some kinks and bends in the cable that you just can't straighten out. Doesn't look clean when you're wearing them with those kinks and bends. Very annoying.
Otherwise, a very fine sounding IEM that leans towards a clear and airy signature.
Had those for almost 3 years. Stopped using them because the cable kept breaking and now I can't get a new one anymore. "earphone solutions" isn't an option for me, as it cost a fortune to ship to Switzerland. Oh well.
Btw: I've found out that Shure tips fit on these headphones as well, but they won't properly fit in my ears and start to sound weird, presumably because of the really small opening. I've also found that Sony tips fit even better. I'm talking about the ones with hardened rubber inside. They hold pretty well and also have a bigger opening so that the sound won't get distorted.
I just had to order a cable from Earphone Solutions on my 2 year old PFE 232s.
That said, I'm a huge fan of these IEMs. Comfort is 10/10. They sound superb, but I wouldn't pay $399 for them when they are so easy to find elsewhere for cheaper. Finding replacement ear tips is very easy (there are tons of aftermarket options).
I picked mine up on AZ "like-new" (new in opened box) for $100 cheaper. :(

Thanks a bunch m8, i really appreciate it.
Nah, you'll find them at a tenth of this price in the bargain basket if you look around.
SealClubber
Can you provide a few links? Thank you!
This is a great pair. So tempted.
Anyone know how these compare to the Shure 535?

Can't beat the 535 mid smoothness in that price range. On the other hand, either aren't very good given their current price with IEMs like FLC8 out on the market.
iKnowThings
Thanks, I will check out the FLC8, wow they already look very promising with tip changes for different music type you listen to. Might not wait for the 535 or consider the qJay References now. Need to read some more to make a decision.
Wow, I thought they don't make these anymore. I'm still using mine after 2 years. Very comfortable to wear and it produce sound so real, sometimes I would mistaken recorded audio as some kind of outside interference, only to discover the perfect seal already blocked out what I thought I've heard. It sounds more like my full size audeze LCD than UE900. I actually lost all my accessories during the most recent SoCal head-fi event, hope I sell enough pens to join the drop.
They have been discontinued for a while. As far as finding replacement cables.. It seems earphone solutions has a batch of pfe cables for sale currently
Just a question, haven't these been discontinued for quite a while, making accessories (filters, silicone eartips, etc) and even the earpieces themselves very difficult to replace, when or if needed?
