Does anyone on here have either of these headphones? Seems like the price should be $100 cheaper

MusicLoverwhat makes you say that? I have the A1000Z which I bought at full price and I don't feel it is overpriced for what you get in terms of performance. It's quite a beautiful headphone as well.

EinTheVarianceI have wanted to try both of these headphones since they first came out. I hace only found a couple of reviews. Sixteen months ago I saw the a2000z for $499 at B&H so I guess I was just hoping they would be less. The lowest I have seen the a1000z was 349.They do look good. Could you tell me more. What amp do you use. How do they sound with Jazz music. Thanks

MusicLoverThese are my office pair so I typically use them with the Fiio X5 3rd Gen either directly or paired with the Fiio K5 amp. They're decently efficient like most Audio Technica headphones so they don't necessarily need an amp although you may find improvements with one depending on your source. Here's a copy paste of sound impression write up I did previously:
The A1000Z is a bright leaning headphone, although I would not say that they are excessively bright (I felt the MSR-7 were brighter, although I sold those long ago so take this with a spoon full of salt). The treble extends decently well but never sibilant or piercing, just enough to bring out the clarity and details. Female vocals and strings are amazing on these, as expected from an Audio Technica pair, and they have quite a good bit of airiness to the sound. The imaging and speed is also very good, and the soundstage is great for a closed back, not too wide but has a nice depth. The most surprising part to me however, was how good the bass is on these. Don't get me wrong, they aren't bass heavy or anything (I'd say it's on the leaner/lighter side) and do have some roll off in the sub bass area, but what is there is clean and tight, with a good punch when the track calls for it.

EinTheVarianceThanks, that helps a lot. I might have to jump in on this drop. Now to figure out which one. I can’t afford both😎

MusicLoverHave the A1000Z, they are well worth their original MSRP, wouldn't pass them up at the discounted rate. A closed headphone done right!

MusicLoverI have the A1000Z and I feel it's easily worth the MSRP. It sounds pretty great with Jazz and female vocals, it's also very efficient meaning it can be driven by a portable audio player or even your phone. Of course it would still benefit from a dedicated headphone amp. I use it with a Schiit Magni 3 and a Chord Mojo when on the go. Personally I feel the Magni 3's slight warmness compliments the A1000Z in a way I like more than driving it with my Mojo.
As for cons these may not have been a dealbreaker for me but they might be for you:
They are somewhat lacking in bass so if you like Rock music they may not give you the "oomph" that IMO Rock music needs. The 3D wing system is a love or hate thing. It's very comfortable on my head but for others it can be uncomfortable and leat to hot spots. There's also the issue of the cables not being detachable. I took a gamble on these when I bought them and personally feel their sound easily justifies the price and makes the issues forgivable.

FrostyPThank you. I have many of their Headphones and know exactly what you mean about the wings. I appreciate the advice and I think I will join the drop. Now I need to figure out if I should go with the a1000z or the a2000z.

EinTheVarianceI love my 1000X and was looking at the 1000Z. Are you using stock pads?

Pingssorry for the late response as I was away all weekend. Hopefully you weren't waiting for me to make your decision. I've used the A1000Z with the stock pads but recently, I slapped on the Ether pads that I was previously using on the TH-X00. It was a super tight fit, but definitely improved comfort some.

PingsI swapped them out for Brainwavz pads for the sake of comfort, the sound actually didn't change to any noticable degree

dnalekawno, these are exclusively for office use. At home, I stick with open backs.
