I don't have an issue with the wear of my MSR7s. Read reviews carefully and you will find that the noise cancellation on these are marginal at best. You can pick up a refurbished pair of MSR7s that are good as new with warranty for under $150.

RosiebarAre you sure you know what you're describing? MSR7NC is like MSR7 but with active noise cancellation. Physically very similar, functionally not.

aeberbachYes. I am pointing out that the MSR7NC noise cancelation rates low so no point in purchasing this model for that feature. So if that is the case then go with the regular MSR7 which can be found for a lot less as a refurbished like new item. Hope this helps.
Rosiebar The noise cancelling circuit within the MSR7NC was designed to enhance the musicality by diminishing standard room noise as opposed to attenuating the drone of an aircraft engine. Problem is marketing wise what else conveys to remove background noise other than NC. Noise-cancelling and venting technologies work together to maintain the Hi-Res Audio reproduction in both active and passive noise-cancelling modes. It does work but, I agree with you we might need to look at another category like "Music Enhancing Noise Reduction" MENR?...

aeberbachDon't expect Bose, Sony or even Audio Technica ANC7/9 levels of noise canceling from these. I had both the ANC9 and the MSR7NC at the same time and it wasn't even a contest. The ANC9 is suitable for airplane rumble and some office noise but doesn't block talking and above frequencies and fan noises still get through. But even with that said the MSR7NC is significantly worse than the ANC9, the MSR7NC honestly doesn't negate much background noise at all and you're probably better off with just a full set of closed headphones (MSR7's are vented) instead if you're on the fence about noise canceling. They still have the same sound signature as the MSR7's (bright and very detailed) but in my experience they're very poor at active noise canceling and even the older products do much better in that regard. The MSR7's do sound quite a bit better however.
