I missed this drop - out of curiosity what was the price?
I'm a W5000 and an AD2000 owner. I'd say instrumentals--the W5000 is king. For vocals, the AD2000 can't be beat (not even by its successor, the AD2000X). Audio-Technica has a house sound, but there's a reason they're so coveted. If you're a M50x user, this is a completely different animal being offered here, so I wouldn't let impressions muddy what these will be like. :) Y'all got my 10/10 recommendation!
damn!i am about to get ck2000ti. I know they are different but both are tempting!
I've had a pair of W5000 for many years. I bought it on sale for around $800 at the time. It is not a versatile headphone and it is ill fitting. I kept it though. Why? It is the best headphone I have ever used for classical music. It doesn't sound good with metal, rock, punk, etc. etc. I really only whip it out when listening to Classical music and it doesn't disappoint. If you have money to burn and want the best possible Classical music headphones, this is it!
full manufacturer warranty. Always straight from the manufacturer.

It is really frustrating to figure out what items are covered by warranty on massdrop, just not consistent.
what are the shipping charges to send this beauty to Singapore? still torn between the W1000 and W5000 (seriously in this day and age no detachable cables?)
For anyone getting the w5000 and finding the fit odd: Try the Dekoni A/AD sheepskin pads with attenuation rings. The pads themselves form a more consistent seal around the head and the attenuation rings will ensure the sound is as close to stock possible (just swapping the pads will increase midbass and muddy up vocals; the rings fix this). Spent a year trying to crack the comfort and sound code on the W5000 and came to that as my final conclusion. Alternatively, if you want a fun alteration to W5000, try ZMF eikon suedes. Makes the W5000 sound darker and wider.

I wish Audio-Technica would go back to using red cherry wood. These look good, but to me they don't come close to matching the W1000 (not W1000X or W1000Z) and W2002, which are still what I consider to be the most beautiful headphones I've ever seen. It's one of the reasons that I can't help but love my W1000s despite the acoustics being objectively ill-suited to a fairly wide range of music (the bass is just noticeably weak compared to almost any other headphone, even for someone like me who is as far from being a basshead as can be). And now I really want to track down a pair of W2002s...
Truly spectacular headphones. I really like the warm, rich and detailed sound of the W1000Z's. Very easy to drive, i've had great success with a wide variety of amps. Even my cheap RA-1 clone works well, although I prefer my OTL tube amp's vast sound stage. You wouldn't think an OTL tube amp would be a good match for a lower impedance design, but it works for me, go figure. EDIT: Forgot to mention that I just love the wooden 1/4" plug. Really adds a classy touch to something that many folks forget about.

I wonder why audiotechnica does not release the detachble cable version of w5000 from 2004 until now. Is it impossible to do this new cable design for 15 years?
The W2000Z's are spectacular phones, and to make them even more amazing, I had mine converted to balanced by Surf Cables.
what about warranty?
