I understand why people are unhappy with this credit thing, but I honestly don't find it too bad. I'd prefer a straight up discount, but if the only other option is not having the product for sale at all, I'm fine with what has been implemented..
I also don't get the people boycotting and opting not to buy. You wouldn't have bought it anyway, because it wasn't available!
Sure, people could buy from another source.
The deal that has been offered here is basically as follows:
Buy now at full price, and receive 20% of what you paid back in form of a gift card.
Are people unhappy that they don't receive money immediately? Should one really buy an expensive product if those 20% could be the difference between being able to buy food and starving for the rest of the month?
One time Massdrop customers, I understand. But for people who are returning it should make no big difference..
Is it really just not being able to spend those potential 80 bucks immediately? I really don't understand..
First of all, I agree with this: "I understand why people are unhappy with this credit thing, but I honestly don't find it too bad. I'd prefer a straight up discount, but if the only other option is not having the product for sale at all, I'm fine with what has been implemented."
Massdrop guys reading this - kudos to you. I know you've taken a fair share of criticism here regarding the structure for this drop, but know that featuring these with Drop Credit is a better option than not having them at all. So thanks for trying to find a way to make them available.
As for the asinine comment "Should one really buy an expensive product if those 20% could be the difference between being able to buy food and starving for the rest of the month?", I highly doubt that that applies to anyone here. Just a guess, but I'd say that most people who are looking at these speakers probably aren't too concerned about being able to put food on the table. Not that they're necessarily that high end or expensive, but I don't think the lack of instant savings is going to make or break anyone.
You're asking why and acting confused, but it has been explained pretty well earlier - most of us would just prefer to have that money available to save or invest or shop at any number of other places vs. store credit that we might forget about. In my case, I've been a member here for about a year and a half. I've joined three drops. If I buy these and receive Drop Credit, will I join another drop and use it before it expires in two years? Maybe, but maybe not. And mainly, we don't want to see this become commonplace. If it'll only be used to feature products on the site that wouldn't otherwise be here due to strict pricing policies, great. But we don't want to see it used in lieu of the normal system.
However, as I said earlier, it's better than nothing. Assuming no retailer anywhere offered a discount on these speakers, I'd definitely rather buy them here and get credit that I could possibly use later than buy them elsewhere for $399 and receive no other incentives. It's kind of like receiving one of those prepaid Visa gift cards as a mail-in rebate when you buy a set of tires. Yeah, it's not optimal and yeah, I'd rather have the money taken off up front, but waiting a few weeks for the gift card is better than paying regular price for the tires and receiving nothing at all. Even that comparison isn't perfect though, because at least that gift card can be used somewhere besides the tire store. ;-)
Drop credit and rebate are two completely different things. Rebate (visa-card) you can use anywhere you choose, albeit you have to wait for one (and sometimes they don't come at all). Drop credit can only be used in one place, MD, and nowhere else. So your comparison is invalid.
Wow, I'm impressed...you managed to state the *exact* same thing that I did, but somehow you made it appear like a disagreement. Are you sure you read my post in full, or did you just want to nitpick?
My point was that even though drop credit and Visa rebate cards do not work in the same way, both are less desirable than getting the cash discount/sale price up front and not having to fool with another form of compensation.
