Having the same issue where 24 bit isn't an option. It crashes foobar w/WASAPI @ 24bit.
I needed to install the software linked on Discussion page 10 then switch USB ports before it would recognize the device. In certain modes, even when set to 16 bit (WASAPI event), it wouldn't playback (source audio was 16b/44.1kHz). It should be noted that nowhere in the instructions does it specify you need software or where to get it (like, ahem, a disc). After it didn't recognize the device, I went to Aune's site and there is no driver/software download for this device nor a description of this issue.
The DIP switches on my unit seem to be mis-wired or the instruction booklet is extremely confusing. After setting my DIPs to the mode that's supposed to be the highest output, it lowered. This is a relief because in the as-shipped mode I could only use the volume through the 1st two volume dots with the electro-harmonix and the 1st three with the Gold-Lion. The switch added one dot for each of those, which is probably due to the 50ohm rating of my 598s. I'll probably need to get/make a impedance converter/matcher to boost my 598 and other low-imp. headphones.
The chassis also gets much hotter than I was expecting, only a few degrees cooler than the tube itself. I'm slightly worried whether the internals are running within thermal spec.
I should also express that the Gold Lion is marginally better sounding than the default tube, but welcome none-the-less. Overall the amp is good, thought the DAC is barely discernible from the stock one on my motherboard (which happens to be excellent).
Also, kudos to massdrop for being the first online retailer (including many ebay-ers) to put the wrong address on the labels. Nearly had two packages go to a neighbor but luckily that address doesn't exist. Which brings me to a second observation: your fulfillment center is in New Jersey? MD headquarters are in CA and so is WASD. No wonder it took so long for the CODE to get here: it had to traverse the country twice. Oh, and China is closer to California in the case of the Aune.
