To achieve superior acoustic performance, a room needs to be properly sound treated. The Auralex DST Alpha Roominator Kit is the ideal way to achieve perfect tonal sound in a space for recording, mixing, and performing Read More
Hey everyone, I have two very small rooms (8x10x8.5)' on my second floor; one is my instrument studio, the other is my entertainment room. Both rooms are running 2.1 monitors, with additional amps as needed for my instruments. Would this kit help me manage the bass (hopefully med/high) bleeding throughout the house? I like the idea of a couch that Axollott mentioned, but these rooms are just too small in their current setup.
pleasantd83It won't really help the noise to the rest of the house. This is for making the inside of your room perform better not to stop noise from getting out. The construction of the room is where you do the noise proofing.
Does anyone know of some inexpensive way: Kit, sheetrock addons, etc that prevent loud music to pass from my condo to the one next door? And if there are enough people interested, maybe work out a drop.
t3knologI've used Green Glue with great success! greengluecompany.com
It's potentially a bit messy, but simple to use. Basically, you glue an additional layer of sheetrock to either side...but the results are pretty impressive. Cheep, too!
A more expensive route is the newer "multi layer" sheetrock, that comes with it's own internal damping layer. If I recall, a few years ago it was about $40 a sheet or more for thicker.
Or, some have actually carpeted the wall, to some effect. Carpet squares?
BoogiemouseIt seems that the recommended amount of greenglue per drywall sheet is slightly over 30$ then add that to the cost of the drywall itself. It doesn't seem cheap to me.
I've been waiting for this one. Just what I need to finish off my room when I'm done building it.
Lowest price of $349 is great. Usually only find this kit for $500
These things are fine for high frequencies but do almost nothing in the problem region of lows - mid. Personally I would not recommend a foam based solution unless they are seriously large (1M depth), mineral wool provides much more effective treatment for low-mid frequencies in rooms where space is a premium, i.e every room not purposely built to be an anechoic chamber.
Yup, EQ and DSP correction won't help in the time domain really, which is what products like this work on. You may, depending on the room, need to add heavier duty bass traps. They can be made DIY out of mineral wool in a frame. Honestly, I'd take the other side and say that room treatments like this are more foolproof than trying to EQ room problems. More forgiving.
PeterLandryThese will only work with the Higher frequencies. Look at the thickness. At this price points best bass traps would be a heavy and as big as you can fit couch. I agree on the mineral wool solution. You would get a higher density and it offer more customization on your room specific needs. Even with all this tips we haven´t even touched proper speaker placement/ surface isolation. I would change this drop for some Isoacoustic stands and then join immediately.
AxollottYour arguments are on point. " proper speaker placement/ surface isolation" ( and or coupling via spikes etc. of course App dependent ie. a Sub ) is much more relevant and likely to be effective, with the problems, many of us will encounter. Your more likely to "break - up" Standing Waves with the use of a 2nd SUB ( a Stereo Pair, NOT MONO). NOT only will You reap a host of added benefits for having a 2nd Bass Driver. But. It's likely to be a more Cost effective expense, to boot. This Foam has its place ... But, way down, on Any reasonable Priority List. And frankly, It's wasted in most "home studio " environments.
I agree with using something like REW to help improve audio but room treatments when done right make more difference in sound than almost any other upgrade . Especially important are the bass traps and covering your first order reflections. REW isn't going to help as much with slap and echo as these would. My only gripe is why offer such a huge package that is only good for small studios or large dedicated home cinema's. You don't want to deaden a room too much either so there is that as well. I'm really happy to see something like this on massdrop and would love to purchase but even at my room size of 15x16 or so I don't think I'd need this many panels. Especially after room correction software. Best bet would be to offer bass traps separately and panels in packages of 12 and you will sell tons more than doing it this way.
This is a pass for me unfortunately.
