For what it's worth, a $15 obdII wifi (or Bluetooth) adapter and free iPhone app does then exact same fact some of them can do more when it comes to car diag.
Ebay has it for $72.00 with free shipping.
Actually yeah I'm wrong. With the 13 dollar shipping cost on here, it's not worth it at all to buy it on Massdrop. You can get it cheaper on Amazon.

I'm wondering if you should consider extending the drop because there were people like myself who didn't want to join at first because of the cost of shipping

Good point - I have extended the drop for an extra day to give this drop the highest chance of success.
Based off the link here it doesn't seem like they sell your private data or anything else. Not sure if I would have quite the same privacy concerns.
The price point needs to come down a bit more for this offer to be attractive. As others have said, it's the same price on Amazon, target, elsewhere... With shipping, what's the incentive? With the wait time, WHY PAY MORE TO HAVE IT LATER??? So I join the drop and I shave $5 when it hits the target, then wait longer? Screw that, I'll pay the $5 "premium" to have it in a reasonable time frame.

Also, with the cloud logging... what options do you have to limit / disable how much information is sent? I don't need my info computed or stored on the cloud, it's my personal data, it can be done on my phone. So what's likely happening here is that they are selling your driving / behavioral data while charging you for the product, double dip much? I'll pass... sucks, I was really excited about a system like this too.
Thanks for the info on whether or not it will be compatible with different cars. However about the price, while I agree that Massdrop tends to take forever to ship things, I can't seem to find it cheaper elsewhere. I looked on Amazon and it's $98.55. Same thing on Target, $99. So other than EBay where people are selling 1st gen used Automatic devices, this seems to be the best price.
I have a question. Does the same device plug into any car or when you purchase it do you have to get one for your specific car model? Let's say I get into a car accident and I need to buy a new car. I don't want my automatic device to be worthless because it doesn't fit the port of my new car.
So long as you have a vehicle made in or past 1996, this device will interface just fine with your OBDSII port. It's the same device type that your mechanic uses to figure out what codes your engine is throwing. However... be wary that they process your data on the cloud. This is usually a means of getting around laws regulating what they can and can not do with your information, and when it is passed over to a third party vendor, good luck tracking it / stopping it's spread. You are being charged for a product as well as having YOUR LOCATION AND DRIVING HABITS SOLD OFF. This is also the same exact price on other sites, these orders take a long time to ship, and you can buy one that will tell you the diagnostic information alone for far cheaper. You would be wise to pass on this.
All of the orders have been shipped and are now on the way to you! Once tracking is available, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking information. Please allow 24-48 hours for this information to update in the courier’s system.

Thanks again for joining this drop! We have submitted the group's order with the vendor for the Automatic Connected Car Adapter (Gen 2) and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.

As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them. The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 7/19.

We will keep the group updated throughout the fulfillment process. You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 7/13.

Does this device accept SIM so I can locate where is my care in case of theft ?
This is already available for $79.99 at Target .. Why wait ??
What is the difference between this and a ODB reader off Amazon for $20?
Load 1 more comment
20 OBD readers will only show you the code - have to look up what it means and no logging off performance data
Hey, hopefully you haven't committed to this yet, please see my other comments further down below. Basically, the big difference is everything it offers versus the diagnostics, BUT, they also store and compute your information on the cloud. What this means is that this information will pass through third party vendor hands, which they have no legal responsibility to oversee what is done with it, nor do you have any legal recourse should you find out later and want to stop it. By that time, your data has been sold multiple times over. It's one thing to be offered a service for free and have they done, but having to pay for it and knowing that they will be double dipping? I'd pass.
I see this is dropping again, which is good...but the minimum is still this $79.99 price point? This is the best discount that a group buy can do?
(FYI this is $79.99 with free shipping on Amazon, or BB w/ price match if you prefer that. As for eBay, brand new fluctuates within the $60-70 band, though now we're comparing apples to oranges.)
I wish I could support you guys, but $80 + shipping simply can't compete with large e-retailers that allow you to triple-dip rewards.
I'd also like to pick this up, but it'd be silly to vs Amazon being a better deal and can get it faster.
