Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Here's a vid with the Retro 2 so people can see what it looks like. If you fell in love with the looks of MK Retro 1 at first sight you may not like the Retro 2 as much or at all. If you pause at 1:17 you can see it on a display with the Retro 1 and see the stark difference in looks between the two.

But I like the back lighting, though. For some reason, it reminds me of air traffic control at a busy airport during the night, some time in the 40's or 50's. I really like it!
This is going to be one of those things where you either like one or the other and you'll know which is for you the instant you see them. Which is why I posted the vid with the MK 2. So people would know if they might want to wait for it.

I'm sorry, if by saying that I sounded sarcastic but there's really no such thing. Keycaps with longer stems and that is NOT STANDARD when it ISN'T a widely used method.
The sight of these caps worn out aren't a pretty sight. Otherwise, the keyboard really looks pretty nice.
