The Ball Trainmaster Power Reserve is a throwback timepiece with tons of charm. The breguet-style needlepoint hands are a striking blue color that pops off the white enamel dial. The font of the Arabic numerals fits the watch almost perfectly, adding to the 19th-century appeal. (Look closely at 7 o’clock and you’ll see the Ball name as the hat on the numeral.) What’s not old-school about the watch are its tritium-filled tubes. This self-powered illumination system is nice and bright with no outside charge required. The movement that is a Ball RR1702 21-jewel automatic with a 42-hour power reserve. The power reserve is easy to track thanks to the arcing indicator at 7 o’clock, where the watch takes its name. Fitted with two sapphire crystals, this automatic isn’t shy about its undercarriage. And with 50-meters water resistance, it isn’t shy in a little water, either.
