MbotIf you want a dive watch buy a dive watch!
Water resistance is not a prerequisite for good watches and there are certainly many that cost factors more that are not water resistant in the slightest.
MbotIf I'm not wrong most Speedies are 5 bar (yes including the Moonwatch series) and their prices are much much higher than $1199. I don't see the correlation between high water resistant and a watch's value.
TriNThere are $100,000.00 plus watches with 50meters water resistance...price and water resistance do not necessarily correlate unless one is only looking at diving watches, for instance.
JasperdundeeWrong wrong wrong
100m should be a minumum on any watch. It's not a technological feat, it's a requisite. Any company that doesn't understand that is negligent.
MbotHe's not wrong though.....
By that measurement Omega, Patek, VC etc are all negligent. 30 or 50m wr is fine in a dress watch (which I think Ball intend this to be). Would more be nicer? Of course. Does it matter? Not really.
50m or less wr in a sports watch on the other hand would be shocking (looking at you, Panerai).
MbotRecreational scuba depths are limited to a maximum of between 30 and 40 meters, yet for some reason you expect a dress watch to be able to withstand more than double that?
Water resistance has nothing to do with the quality of a watch.
The more you associate the two the more apparent it is that you know nothing about either watches or diving.
FullObeans50m doesn't mean literally 50m, you know nothing. For example, 50m resistance is for a watch sitting still (not moving) at that depth, moving your hand at that depth instantly increases the pressure on the watch to 7bar-10bar.
50m water resistance is not for swimming with.
MbotBut why though? What need does a watch like this have for 100m of water resistance? Even with 100m I wouldn't take this diving or even boating, it's not nearly enough. This was intended by the manufacturer as a dress watch, not a sports watch. Though if that's what you want out of this watch, they do make a world time diver with 300m of water resistance which is what I would prefer from a real dive watch.

MbotGeez Mbot, this is a travel watch, not a dive watch. I'm in the global shipping business and travel a lot. This is just what I need. I don't expect to go swimming in the yukky harbors around the world. And it's a Ball!
This is laugable...
There's no excuse for making a $3000 watch only 5 bar.
