If im looking for a 1440p monitor with 1ms grey to grey response time and 144hz, is this still good option even thought i wont be rocking an AMD gpu in my rig?

T-oxIf you know what monitor you want, graphics cards don't matter. Someone can correct me if I am incorrect, but I believe that it doesn't matter what your settings or graphics power is, monitors will just display the max resolution they can (in this case 1440p or lower).

T-oxHi T-ox. I assume you are referring to Free-Sync since you mentioned AMD. At this time, based on multiple reviews and what I know working for BenQ, having G-sync/free-sync with a high refresh rate (144hz) monitor is not very useful. However, if your processor or game can support faster than 144hz refresh rate, that is the only time free-sync will come into play.

ShaneJUm... This is going to be my understanding of free/g-sync could be wrong but I honestly doubt it.
What you want most from a game is for it to match your monitors refresh exactly so you push one frame the moment the monitor is ready, however this happens rarely. lets go this way
---------------- that is how many ms you have to wait for a frame at 60fps ------- that is about how long you wait at 144 hz
both of these are assuming you are pushing 144 or 60 and never dropping below. now, with 60 you could have you have a frame that could be ready here
-0-------------- or a frame that is ready here --------------0- or really any where in between.
the first one will make the game feel laggy, the second will make it feel responsive, some people try and push the fps as high as it will go and get something like this
--0--0--0--0-0--
each frame in there but the last one is lost, but it feels more responsive because you have something that comes in at the end. with 144, and let me put this bluntly, your computer is never going to push this 144 fps with every setting maxed at 1440p unless the game was designed to run on litteraly the worst hardware you can buy, something like csgo/dota/lol will likely do this but almost any other game wont unless its also old as dirt.
what adaptive sync does is it displays a new frame when the gpu has a new frame so long as its within its range, so you will have something like this
-------0 -------0 --------0 ------0 -----------0 --------------0 --------0 -------0 -----------------------0 --------------------0 -----------0 ----------------0 ---------0 --------0 -----------------0
This is what everyone is talking about when they use a free/gsync monitor for the first time, even lower fps the games feel amazing to play because everything is responsive. Till i used one, i use to think fps>this, then i used it and its the other way around. free synch would be the most important thing to get in a monitor right next to static contrast ratio
on a side note, anyone know what the range is? i know there is an acer(possibly asus) freesync that advertises 40-144 but realistically it gets 18-23 as its minimum.

AlidanOn paper, and based on the processor guys like Nvidia, they will always tell you what it can do or what it "should" do. People have reported that sometimes, it causes more issues than it fixes. It is supposed to prevent screen tearing, but in the process, can cause other issues. Kind of like how software based refresh rate enhancements (clear motion rate for Samsung and motion clarity index for LG) can cause issues like halos and the soap opera effect which makes everything look fake and the colors off. From what I have read and experienced, you will have a better experience with a 144hz monitor without any sync feature than you will with a 60hz with sync feature. But hey, this monitor also has free-sync, so its the best of both worlds :)

VenatoriousI was refering to adaptive sync being amd only, and the question was about not using amd gpu's.
