Thanks guys.. I googled it a while back when I saw one of the first launches and just wanted I clarify. At that time I couldn't find any information. I don't think I'm into collecting Chinese knives :/

bubahJust because they are made in China doesn't mean they are poor quality and cheap materials.
WE, Kizer, and BTK are all made in China and all make really good knives. WE knives are the ones making the Falcon, Crux, and Gent in collaboration with Ferrum Forge.

Epic_EnkiduI know this, but it just feels less valuable. There's tonnes of great quality that comes out of china. I just.. don't want to feed the obesity.

Epic_EnkiduThat's also what made me weary of ferum forge. I mean.. I'm sure it's a great knife.. just not really a collectors piece. IMO.

bubahThere's nothing special about being made in the USA other than it's exceptionally rare these days. You could say you prefer to support US businesses and the American economy, but I think that would be the only logical reason to overlook these Chinese brands. Just saying you're not a fan merely because they're Chinese is rather xenophobic. I'm not suggesting that's what you've said, but you didn't exactly make your reasons clear.
Chinese hands are just as capable of forging a quality knife. The proof is in the pudding. And this is reinforced by the fact that, with so many companies moving their manufacturing bases to China, the Chinese factories now have direct access to our tooling, materials, and finishing processes (steel hardening science is a big one). That's something they didn't necessarily have back when "Made in China" meant lesser-quality products. The world has changed. Don't let prejudice cause you to pass up a good deal on a quality product.

DataIt's a last call for Chinese manufacturing with trumps threats. I see it as a bunch of knife designers trying to get that money before it's gone. I have no doubt they are equally as capable .. i just like thinking of passion in the objects I buy. not mass produced junk.. it takes so much away from the beauty of a collectors piece. It's just my opinion. If we're talking a knife for everyday use, fuck it, use Chinese .. it's cheap and you won't care if it's lost or broken..

bubahI know that's not the case here, but it begs to be said that "Chinese" and "mass produced" are two different things.
DataPreferring to support your home country does not make you Xenophobic. I think bubah is fully aware that the chinese are very capable knifemakers. The issue is supporting the global economic model in play here. BTK, Rike, We, Reate can pay there employees in Yuan. Our countey has a massive trade deficit with China which should drive up the value of the Yuan internationally and improve the socio-economic standing of the average chinese factory worker relative to those around the world . Instead, the Chinese at the top of the food chain are literally buying U.S. dollars buy the billions to drive there own currency down. This would be highly frowned upon in the U.S. or G.B or Germany where the Dollar and Pound and Euro(formerly Duetche Mark) are a source of national pride and the middle class worker is still (supposedly) respected and valued. Instead, the Chinese "haves" take no issue with devaluing their own currency so they can hoard more dollars and pay their workers in an ever decreasing currency that will get them no where fast anywhere but China and keep them poor relative to the rest of the world. Furthermore, they are buying up savings bonds with the billions of dollars that they aren't hoarding in Swiss bank accounts (dollars that aren't circulating through our economy) with the intent of driving interest rates down to encourage us Americans to keep using our credit cards to keep spending away on their stuff.....stuff that again is so cheap because they pay their workers in Yuan and because they are also willing to pollout their own air to the point where you literally cannot see 20 feet in front of your face. Please, stop with the buzzwords and the accusations. Not everyone who doesn't agree with your opinions is "xebophobic" or "racist" or any other "ist"

DataYup. China makes a great knife. Lot of great knives from everywhere, so why give your money to China?
WayoftreadNow not to do a total 180 or sound like a hypocrite, I totally understand wanting to support the USA, but I had to give this Dolphin a shot. I just think it's one of the absolute best looking knives I've ever seen. I love the color, especially the gold/greenish one, and the shape of the handle and blade are both very attractive. And to be honest, I really like a lot of Bestech's designs. The scimitar, the warwolf, the starfighter and the tercel are all right up my alley as far as design aesthetics and this thing just takes the cake. I totally understand wanting to support the USA and I often do, but I just have to give the people at Bestech credit. It's not just that they are able to build a Ti framelock for cheaper than a US maker can, it's that they designed one that really appeals to me above and beyond. Credit to them.

WayoftreadYou answered your own question: because they make a great knife. I also own knives from Germany, Sweden, Russia, and the US. Country of origin is not a factor for me. I look for quality and value first.
Also, you guys are replying to something I said 6 months ago.
DataSo do you have Dolphin? I've heard they are well centered, lock-up tight and are very smooth? Did you find that to be true? Also, is the detent? I like my flippers to really fly open.

twelvehourpowernapYeah, I have this one. It's definitely well made. I would compare it to some of the higher-end Kizer flippers. It opens smoothly but I wouldn't say it "flies open". Then again, I don't carry it regularly so mine might just need to break in a bit. At worst it needs a drop of oil on the pivot.
I really like the unique finish on the scales.
DataJust got mine and I'm very impressed. The mechanical quality is top notch. The milling and the two-tone anodization are just really well done and not something I would expect to see on a $150 knife these days

twelvehourpowernapNot to say you are wrong in how China is powering their economy but I do not think keeping the average worker poor is a goal. In the last few decades, the buying power of a Chinese worker has greatly improved while the US has remained stagnant at best.
The global economy has enabled us to buy great toys to distract from our inability to buy a house or afford health care.
ponagathosI agree with your economic analysis, and I applaud your economy with words.
