Hi all, I really like this knife but I need my EDC gear to last and I needed answers before buying given the failure concerns in this thread. Obviously don't base your decisions on an internet stranger but you could use my research to begin your own evaluation process.
1) I contacted massdrop asking if I'd be covered if I saw a failure like this and was told they only cover products damaged upon delivery which is basically no help. 2) I visited the bestech website to see their warranty. They offer a lifetime warranty on their product with some disclaimers, see here: http://www.bestechknives.com/index.php/contact 3) I'm in Canada, their warranty doesn't expressly say Canadian coverage. I emailed them and (quickly) received a response from a CS rep. There was a bit of a language barrier but she was overall quite helpful. She was actually surprised they were being shipped to Canada, had assumed there would be a customs issue but considering there is no law against this style of knife in Canada, she said it would be no problem to cover the knives under warranty. Most interestingly though, she suggested that there was an issue with part of one previous batch of steel which was identified retroactively and the latest run has been improved upon.

mikeflowmikeflow, you were lucky to get that knife into Canada as the ARE illegal to import and considered a prohibited weapon by CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) as per the notice below. I have heard of quite a few being refused entry because they are "flippers". They are currently still legal to purchase, own or use in Canada, just not to import. I'd be very careful sending it back for warranty as you may never see it again. https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/cn-ad/cn18-01-eng.html

RayLThis is good to know RayL, I have never had an issue but in retrospect I've only purchased 2 flippers cross border.
Many canadian retailers sell them though, I'm not sure how they get to import them?

mikeflowMany stores may have existing inventory that they received before the updated ruling. They can still import them if they have a prohibited weapons license which I'm assuming most gun stores do. There are also knives made in Canada by companies like Grohmann, North Arm and Cosmo (not sure if they make flippers though). It really doesn't make sense when flipper knives are currently legal under the Canadian Criminal Code. Go figure!
