Out of curiosity, am I the only one that cares where my knives are made? I noticed MD quit listing the origin. I will spend the money for American made knives.

JwardshardIt's definitely made in China. Bestech is a Chinese company.
For me, as long as the product is quality, I don't much care where it comes from.

JwardshardMade in China, but I wouldn't let that scare you off. This is definitely a quality brand from my experiences with them so far

JwardshardI'll be one of the first to support an "American First" buying attitude, and I consider most things from China to be sub-par. Having said that, this company has made a concerted effort to buck the normal "junk" trend that most knock-off companies are known for. They are a real manufacturer of their own unique models, and they are making strides in changing the idea of what a Chinese made product can be. They still have some drawbacks, and cut a few corners to make the price appealing, but their overall quality is quite nice.
I picked up the "Scimitar" when it was on MD about a month ago, and didn't quite know what to expect. I will say, it is my best ~$40 knife, of which I own many. It won't compete with Benchmade or Spyderco, but it will certainly hold it's own against mid-range Kershaws and the like. It is my EDC now. Certainly worth a look.

kauboyCan you elaborate on what you mean by cutting corners and drawbacks? (curious as I own 2 of their higher end models with no complaints, awaiting delivery of one of their 'budget models', and collecting opinions before deciding about buying any more before I get my Swordfish in hand)
From what I see, the Scimitar is contoured g10, a 2 tone D2 blade with a machined groove, custom pivot hardware, deep carry clip comes stock, ceramic ball bearing action....i'm seeing lots of things there that should drive the price up, not lower their costs?
Thanks in advance :)

KavikIndeed, and like I said, it's a great knife. A few points people have noticed on them (the Scimitar specifically) is a lack of mass at the pivot point. Around the bearing, there isn't much steel. This can allow for ordinary pressures from average use to cause breaks at the pivot. They would likely go unnoticed until the most inopportune time, and might lead to an injury. I won't be prying on anything with this knife, not that anyone should pry with a cutting tool, but you know we all do it.
Another small issue is the lack of customization with respect to the pocket clip. It only has one position. It can't be switched to the opposite end or side to accommodate a particular style of carry. This is almost standard on budget knives.
The last thing appears more to be a case by case issue. It might be fine on one, and junk on another. That is, the locking tab engagement. On mine, it is solid. The entire locking tab seats under the deployed blade, makes perfect contact, and is safe to use. Others have reported that the engagement can be lackluster at best to downright non-existent at worst, leading to a potentially dangerous use of the tool. This is more of a quality control issue than a manufacturing one. Like I said, mine is perfect.
Just little things that they could improve on, but in doing so, might bump the cost a bit. As you pointed out, on many of their models, the material quality is excellent. That's the main reason that I think the description for this particular knife's handle material might be in error. The "G-10 Series" is supposed to be a line of knives with G-10 handles... or so it would seem.
Hope that helped. My points are certainly not enough to dissuade me from buying another one of their knives. I think they will only get better with time.
