Here's the deal with these type of knives and companies, it's their warranty and service that should be a factor when considering a purchase. I see a lot of discussion about the quality and materials as compared to other manufacturers, but no mention of experiences (plural) with the manufacturer on warranty or service issues. Yes, you get better materials, and in many cases better workmanship when China OEMs produce their own lines, but as new companies, how good their warranty and service is should be a MAJOR factor in your decision. Look at Kershaw, CRKT and even Benchmade, you pay more for budget (sub. really cheap) materials, lower QA and designer names, but you have a reputable US company to call when there's a problem. My experience with all three has been mostly positive; turn around decent and yes, a human being and occasionally a knife enthusiast to speak to. Consider this factor when purchasing a cheaper, albeit well built, imported knife from a new company in China. To be fair, Bestech knives are new in the market, so time will tell.

EliotKWhat kind of warranty and service work are you expecting with a $36 knife, anyway?
Knives are consumable tools, it really doesn't make sense to expect a warranty repair process beyond simple vendor replacement of a bad knife that made it through QC checks.
Not at this price range anyway.
Also this is a better knife than any low-cost CRKT, it's better than any similar budget Kershaw I've seen, and it's one third the price of a 'budget' Benchmade.

OmniseedOnce again, you're comparing materials and quality between knife brands, not service value. Warranties are price independent, meaning a $19.99 Kershaw will have the same warranty as one for $100. Now, would you spend $200 on a knife from an untested (new-China) manufacturer? If I have a problem with my knife, it's good to know that I can call up the manufacturer and seek resolution under their warranty with a proven level of service. It's not about how much you pay (the same goes for $200 Bestech knives!), it's the comfort in knowing a manufacturer will stand behind their product.
Here's my point, Bestech does warranty their knives from material and workmanship defects, but to start that process you can try to call them: ADD:YUDONG 6RD,DONGCHENG,YANGDONG,YANGJIANG,GUANGDONG,CHINA Cal: 86-662-6222260 Fax: 86-662-6222261 (yeah right)... or email them. Either way you're shipping it back to China. Yes, I guess some might consider $43 (tax+ship) low enough cost to negate any warranty issues and just toss it. I can tell you that the manufacturer doesn't expect you to. So, just how comfortable would you be buying one of their $200+ knives? Same goes for Rike, WE, etc. They have got to extend their service into the US if they want to play in the high end knife market.

EliotKI see your point if you are talking about a $100+ purchase, absolutely. However, in the sub $50 category I‘m going to go with the manufacturer who can put out the best built, most consistent product with the best materials, because frankly, for less than $50, I ain’t shipping anything anywhere for repair, whether its Portland or Ngdong China. If I get a bum piece at that price I’m likely just going to write it off. The problem I see with a lot of the “American“ companies who are doing budget knives (let’s be honest most large knife companies are either foreign owned or make most of their shit overseas), is that they seem to value flash advertising and aesthetic appeal over building a simple, but quality product made with good materials, but that’s a generalization.
A partial solution to the problem of foreign companies who do not do warranty in the states is to buy through a reputable company who is likely to back you up at least initially if you have any problems and To check the product thoroughly when you get it.

EliotKI have a Rike-built HX Outdoors ZD-006, it's one of my best knives.
I also have a Bestech 1706A, it's really neat but I feel like the budget models are more obviously high quality for their price point. the 1706A just needed a little more attention at first, the BG01B has been flawless and hasn't required any adjustment so far, it's still smooth and locks up securely.
The blade stock is a nice modest thickness, the satin finished grinds with stonewashed flats are a lovely touch, in general the construction and design of this knife is outstanding.
At $40 it's a nice low cost option, it's not a $100 knife, and being the type of person to geek out over knives online, the warranty replacements on cheap knives is kind of a null benefit.
I'm not going to have one knife, this is probably never getting worn out by me anyway.
