Shrapnel can do serious damage in the field. So can this new folder from Bestech. Measuring 8.3 inches long, the Shrapnel sports a super sharp 3.4-inch blade with a two-toned finish. Offering lots of belly, the S35VN blade is thick throughout the body and tapers to a fine tip for detail work and piercing. The shape is slightly unconventional, jutting upward like a shard of glass. Opening the knife is achieved with a press on the flipper tab, and closure comes from the built-in frame lock in the titanium handle. For a touch of color, the tip-up clip and pivot collar are anodized in different colors.

Developed by Crucible Industries (one of the leading manufacturers of specialty steels for the cutlery industry) and Chris Reeve (pioneer of the integral frame lock, featured on the Gent), S35VN is perhaps the most balanced blade steel ever created in terms of all-around performance. It’s made through a process known as Crucible Powdered Metallurgy, which results in near perfect consistency in the distribution of carbides. Compared to conventional melting practices, the CPM process produces a steel characterized by superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness.
