I love small knives. Goblin has been my favorite purchase of 2018, so I am excited about this Selected the Gold as that is a higher voltage than the blue it Seems they’re using. can’t wait.

I have several of the Bestech low-end knives and think they are all pretty good for the money; however, it looks to me like Bestech is taking the same approach as Kizer and a few others with regard to their budget series. i.e. flooding the market with a lot of very similar models in hopes of finding at least one that is appealing to everyone. Trouble is there will be so many that their value will be next to nothing if you want to unload them. Great users, but if you don't wear them out (which few of us probably do) then you'll probably have a hard time unloading them. You may as well give them away as their value continues to decrease. The other approach these companies are taking is to make smaller and smaller knives which cost about twice the money per inch as a full size. They're cute, but you get tired of them pretty quickly. Once you have about 4 or 5 of these low-end knives (like I do) you begin to see your mistake. (No, I'm not giving mine away just yet, LOL)

I had one and returned it - just too darn small. I had lots of trouble with the ergonomics and found it difficult to open in my medium-size hands. Fit and finish were excellent.

From an aesthetic and materials perspective, this is my favorite Bestech offering yet. I can't see buying a knife this small though. If they come out with a Zen2 that has a ~3.25" blade and a maybe a deep carry clip I'll be interested for sure.

$89 isn't quite enough of a discount guys. Bladehq has it for 102. At $79 I would pull the trigger.

Mine arrived today and have 2 questions for the group 1) the gimping on the flipper tab is extremely sharp and therefore very uncomfortable to deploy. Is this normal and is there anything I can do about it and 2) the action is a little gritty - will disassembly / cleaning / lubrication solve or do I need to “break it in”?

Does anyone know if there is a stainless steel insert on the lockbar or is it straight titanium on steel?

bmdubYes, it has a steel lock insert. Full titanium is not strong enough.

Anyone have this knife and can comment on how it compares to a WE knife (specifically the Massdrop FFKW/WE Falcon)? I've seen Bestech pop up on Massdrop for a while now, but information out there is pretty sparse. Maybe a handful of threads on bladeforums.com. I'm curious because - besides aesthetics and price - the Zen and Falcon seem pretty comparable. Curious if there's any major difference in build quality between the two.

Thanks for the reply. Have you handled this knife, or the FFKW/WE Falcon, by chance? Wondering how they compare. Also, I just noticed the Bestech Zen kinda looks like a utility knife/box cutter when folded. Now I can't unsee it:

YabosMcGeeI’ve got a Falcon and looked at the specs of this one. This knife and the Factor Bit are identical in size (Same manufacturer) and are quite a bit smaller than the WE Knife Co. made Falcon. As far as quality... I have two entry point Bestech knives, which I like actually and surprisingly. I actually carried the orange and black Swordfish for an entire month for my primary edc. I will say that I have a Factor Equipment knife inbound and can report more about its QC and action at a later date. I have pined over the Dolphin and Tercel (not Toyota) for several months and believe them to be at Kizer’s level or superior in Chinese manufacturing.
Reate & WE hold the bar in quality imo currently. There are several companies on the up and up like Two Sun, but marketing, availability, pricing, and build quality with desirable materials has made them the top dog.
The moral of the story is the Falcon is a larger knife, has a great design and is executed by WE well. The handles are thicker however and slightly bulky, but comfortable chamfering and radiused points make it nice to carry with multiple ergonomic hand positions for various cutting tasks. The clip is horrid, FYI.
The Bit & Zen are tiny knives and are nice and more gent folder realm for your front pocket wallet from Hitch and Timber co. Or Allegory Leather offered here on MD. Because of their thin profile and handle thickness, they make deployment difficult with all hand sizes. A lot of dexterity and focus is needed to not squeeze the lock bar in while trying to deploy the blade.

Massdrop, there’s a typo in your description. It is Zen, not “Zhen”.
