So I have no doubt this light has a higher fit and finish quality than the Maratac Cu AAA also here on Massdrop, and it has both a nifty QR system as well as the far superior Nichia 219 emitter, but I'm concerned about the spring weakening quickly. I'd hate to either have to find a replacement or substitute pocket clip, or even worse to lose the flashlight. So a couple quick questions: Should I just stick with the more traditional Maratac flashlight? Does the titanium pocket clip replace the QR system altogether? And does the extra inch of length (almost a third longer) make the Beta somewhat bulky?

MDDogeI've been carrying my brass Beta QRv2 almost daily since Nov/Oct 2015. It doesn't feel bulky when carried in my pocket and I don't have any issues with the QR system. And as I also have their Kappa QR keychain, I can even lego and swap it with some other keychain stuffs when I don't want to carry the flashlight.
Maybe some minor gripe is that the brass version isn't really a light keychain carry (no pun intended). But can't complain anything there because brass is naturally heavier than aluminum.

MDDogeI agree with Fadon on the workmanship. I've had a Beta QRv2 for a few months and I've been monitoring the spring for signs of imminent failure. The flashlight and the keychain QR tailpiece are still holding tightly together with no slop. It takes a firm pull to release. There is a slight color variation in the brass at first, but the patina looks just great after a month or so. I'm buying another (in copper) and putting the brass one on my wife's keychain since she has been eyeing mine.

MDDogeI don't find the Beta bulky at all for clipped pocket carry.
I have the Maratac as well and while it is a great light my biggest complaint is that the clip feels quite flimsy. It has not failed on me yet, but that definitely keeps it from being carried more often than it should be.
The titanium clip for the Beta utilizes the QR mechanism. The kit comes with a "cap" that essentially holds the clip in place by snapping in to the QR. I have been carrying it clipped for a year and have not removed it often and have seen no weakening of the spring.
Ostensibly, it's all modular and you can pop off the clip and pop on the quick release keychain as needed. You can see examples of how it works and looks on the site.

GentlemanSinThanks for the information. I think I'll switch to the Beta. I doubt I'd be disappointed with either flashlight but at essentially the same price the Beta just seems hard to beat.
Edit: Hahaha spoke too soon. I'll come back around if the copper's available next time (hopefully there's a next time). Brass is pretty slick but copper ages like it's been with you on a thousand adventures. Let me know how the Beta works out for y'all.

MDDogeI could be wrong, but the drops for the 3-mode versions (copper & brass) are pretty rare here. I was in a similar situation like you, where I missed the copper version. But after waiting for so long, probably around a year, I snapped. So I bought it directly from Prometheus Lights at full retail price. I hope you don't have to wait for so long for the next copper drop.

fadonThat's a long time between drops, wow. If worst comes to worst and a year or two down the line they haven't brought the copper drop back I'll probably crack and pay full price too. I'd rather not, but oh well. What do you think, was it worth full price?

MDDogeI have spent full price twice and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. They are fantastic lights.

MDDogeYeah, it worth paying full price, especially for the unique QR system and its design. But I'm not from the US and that's why I took quite a hit when I paid full price because of my country's low value currency. 😬
If you think the price drop here isn't that great, you can always buy it directly from Prometheus Lights at any given time.

fadonThat's unfortunate that you had to pay a hefty sum because of currency shenanigans. At least you're happy with the product. :D
Massdrop actually has a pretty good deal. Something like 25-35% off. I'd certainly like to save money if possible, but money for quality is the basic rule. I'm certainly willing (and happy) to pay full price if necessary.
