@Samhagen and @N147JK I have no affiliation with Massdrop and am not trying to be pedantic, but what's available on Amazon isn't the same exact headphone being offered here. The version selling on AMZ for $186 is the "Pro": different headband and a coiled, not straight, cable. The blacked-out "limited edition" version selling for $200 also has a different headband (microfiber like on the Tesla T70/T90 series as opposed to the standard leatherette on the DT series) and there aren't model badges on the earcups. As far as I can tell, the exact model being offered here on MDP isn't available from other vendors. Granted, the electronics and build quality are going to be the same, but the "Premium DT880 250-ohm" model with its regular accoutrements (headband, badging, cabling, etc.) is the most sought after version and vendors charge more for it than the others (~ $250 and up).

JTrubs @JTrubs . I did mention that they aren't identical, but I appreciate the further detail. Personally I'd rather have the full blackout version amazon is offering. The leatherette on the DTs isnt great in my opinion (yes I own a pair of the pro 880s). People can go ahead and buy this if they want. It isn't A Terrible deal, i was just letting people know that if the reason they are drawn to this is because they are blackout, then there is another cheaper option (and yes, I already acknowledged in my first post that they aren't identical)

SamhagenI hear you, Samhagen, and thanks for the conversation. I have a set of Pro 880s myself but might be tempted to pull the trigger on these - this configuration is unique. Cheers!

JTrubsYour points are all well-taken. Regardless, a lot of people requested this and only 2 have purchased. It's pretty clear that Massdrop is not providing what their membership wants.

JTrubsAnd it looks like the DT880 Premium All Black edition on Amazon is not only $20 less than the commit price on this drop, it's blacker. And I'm not sure the microfiber headband isn't better. Hair oils are not good for leather, long term.

UnixRoninExactly - something close to the All Black Premium on Amazon is what I hoped would be offered here (in 600 ohms), but no.

JTrubsThis is the DT-880 Premium. Isn't this the same thing as these on Massdrop, except not all black (which isn't even all black anyway)? $186 and free shipping.

So, Massdrop is asking almost $50 more just for the color of the pads?

N147JKIt appears that's the case. If someone is looking for the 600 ohm version of the 880 Premium, they would be better served to purchase it somewhere other than Massdrop.

N147JKYour points are well-taken, too. And as you've pointed out, where the rubber meets the road is how many people have joined the drop.

JTrubsExcept that this IS the 880 Premium (at least it appears to be), and Massdrop is offering it in 600 ohms right here. It's just that for some reason they have the price sky-high. Not surprisingly, they aren't selling.

N147JKI am in agreement with you. And yes, the proof, as you pointed out, is that only a few have been sold at this point.
