These are the worst treble cannons ever and have absolutely no bass, or balance for that matter. Stay away, build is flimsy, mine broke after a few weeks thanks to plastic clips (the beyer logo at the headband). Just find some other brand, these are absolute garbage.

OmnificCan you provide a little more context? What is the rest of your set up? Source, amp, file quality and/DAC?

OmnificWhat are you talking about the Balance is perfect on this headphone. Sounds like you are looking for a headphone with a boost in treble and bass. I think the DT990 is the headphone for you.

OmnificOmnific is absolutely right! I bought these from Amazon about 9 months ago and even after 40 hours of burn-in, the highs were the harshest I've ever heard. Build is ok, but if you value decent treble, stay away from these!

OmnificBeyerdynamic headphones are some of the most durable headphones there are. You must have been pretty rough with these headphones to make them break. Even then, you can buy replacement clips on their website for less than $30 I'm sure. These headphones are open headphones, they're not meant to be super bassy. Compared to every other open headphone I've used, this one has the most bass anyways. If you want heavy garbage-bass sound, then buy Beats headphones or something.

OmnificI disagree with pretty much everything you said. These are semi-open and the sound leakage is like a fully open set of cans. So you can't expect a closed back type of bass. Regardless something tells me you have 32Ohm driver while you use a portable player.
I have a dedicated amp to drive these 600Ohm puppies and the bass is just right. I also own the DT990 600Ohm version and that's too bass (and treble) heavy.
The structural integrity of the 990s is quite similar to the 880s. I have the 990s for 3 years that are still in mint condition. Only drawback has been the loosening of the clamp force. But it's not an issue.
Anyone in the market for sub-$300 audiophile headphones knows these cans deserve respect.
With a dedicated amp, these headphones sound at par with 800-900$ cans. They are grossly undervalued IMO.
