atarioneI have ordered an Xduoo TA-01 and bought a vintage genuine Tesla made tube. Do you reckon the DT880 premium 250 ohms will be more neutral than the DT990 pro 250 ohms? I'm still not sure which of the two headphones would give me better mids and not so crisp high frequencies with this amp. I'm going to listen to electronic music and want precision not excessive muddy bass. Do you think the DT880 250 ohm are better suited? I read the 990pro250ohm sound 'funny' with extra bass and narrower sound stage than 880 do you think this is true? THANKS

TimewalkerHello Timewalker. The 990 have a U shape signature, having the high and low accentuated and the mid a bit recessed. This is referred to a fun signature and normally favourable to wide sound stage. To me the 990 stage was wider than 880. But 880 still have decent stage.

TimewalkerIt was back when I had them both. The 880 is mostly neutral. Again like other mentioned if paired with a bright amplifier / source they may be persived bright for some. This is subjective. They are revealing as most of all Beyerdynamic headphones. Properly matched they are a great headphone.

TimewalkerOwn/owned the pro 250 of both. I did prefer the DT880 as it is much more linear and neutral, its bass comes across as more extended(less of a rolloff from peak) but definitely lacks the "thump" of the DT990. I sold the 880 as I bought a T1, they were close enough in sound signature that I couldn't justify keeping both. The 880 is the best of 770-880-990 line if you want a balanced sound signature. All of these headphones have the "Beyer Spike" house sound in the treble, I'm not overly sensitive to it but others might. I kept the 990 as it does really well with some hard rock/rap, it used to be the "king" of open headphone bass but there are many more examples of bassy open/semi open designs now. ElectronicVicesThank you! I believe DT880 250 ohm edition will be the right choice for me as I will use them for music production as studio headphone and I need them as flat and neutral as possible.

TimewalkerThey should do quite well for that... the DT line maintains a pro audio focus. They claim the 770 is best for monitoring, 880 for mixing and 990 for mastering. The first two make sense to me but the last one would only be good for revealing problems with the bass and treble frequencies due to the strong V sound signature IMO.

I will advise / warn that depending on your preferences / hearing the treble can be pretty harsh if paired with a brighter Solid state amp... I can't listen to these with my FiiO E07K/E09K stack.. too harsh
They are listenable /not bad with my 80's vintage Kenwood KR-V106R receiver
They are delightful with my DV336SE (RCA 6SN7GT and GE 6AS7GA) the highs are tames the sound stage is good the lows quite good.
blah blah... these are best (imho) when paired w/ tube amp if possible or warmer Solid State amp.. bright SS gear should be avoided.
comfort is quite good
