What is a good amp/dac to go along with these headphones?

Duck_GodsonTube amp all the way. Dt990 treble is too harsh imo but luckily my little dot mk2 had tamed it a lot while the headphone reduce the hissing from my ld significantly. And fyi, tube is better to drive high impedance headphone (dt990 600ohm inmy case)

DrrragonDo you think the massdrop liquid carbon x amp/dac would be just as good as this type of amp you’re recommending with a separate dac unit?

Duck_GodsonI use separate unit of dac as i have both dt990 and he4xx, which is known to sound so bad with tube amp, ehich i confirm. Btw haven't try the cacbon x from MD but i much prefer the sound from my tube amp compare to my fiio E12 with this headphone, which is not saying much as e12 not designed to run 600 ohm cans.

Duck_GodsonI drive it with Darkvoice 336 Se Tube amp, amazing. They need a lot of power, not only watt, they need a strong signal like tube amp can do. But i think a good solid state can do it well. In theory, Schiit Magni/Vali and O2 Amp.

IlTossico+1 to Darkvoice with these. I'm running the same and it's my fav combo. O2 delivers enough power and sounds decent. My Fiio e10k can't handle these at all. Hilariously my LG G7 can drive these with it's quad dac enabled surprisingly well (for a phone in an age where 3.5mm is going extinct)

IlTossicoI want to buy a pair to match them with my Darkvoice! I want them for classical, Even though I'm sure they must deliver good sound on Jazz and Progressive rock, am I right?

giomotoRight man, i use they mostly for rock and metal music but sometimes i listen jazz and...amazing, musical instruments like the trumpet sound amazing thanks to very hight treble and you can also hear contrabass and similar instruments very well thanks to deep bass. These headphone have improved bass and treble and less medium range. I suggest you the 600 ohm version.
Now i have the dt990 600 ohm, hd518 and pc37x. My next pair is dt880 or hd6xx/hd650.

IlTossicoMy pick would be the 600 omh, that's why I bought the dark voice, to have plenty of power. My Mdr V6 sounds so good with that amp, I also have the Phillips SHP 95000ps but I want more, those are open, but the sound is kind of boring. On classical, it does nothing on me, it's not dynamic enough! My expectations are high on the Beyer's. Let's see.

giomotoDt990 also is semi-open headphone but i can tell you that bass are very clean and deep, much more than some closed headphone i've tried. The sound is very dynamic with great soundstage, compared to headphone like hd600, they are very colored. You need to try them, they are very fun!

giomotoTrust me, Beyerdynamic and Darkvoice is what you want!!
Vintage GE 6080 power tube and a NOS Silvertone driver tube are just ridiculously good with the BD house sound.
