I love, love, love my DT-770 and DT-990, really thinking hard about getting a DT-880 to round things out... Out of all my headphones, these have held up the best, in terms of sound quality relative to modern products. They were every bit as good as their top contemporaries (said as someone who owns Senn HD-650, AKG K701, several Audio Technica cans, had some Grado 80 and 225 but didn't get on with their shape, and more). Their construction quality is the best out of any of my cans.
Lots of companies make great headphones, but Beyer makes the heck out of their stuff. They're as durable as Shure mics, haha.
The DT-990 is not an exceptionally peaky set of cans, by the way. The emphasis on the treble and bass is tasteful, not crazy. They're some fine cans :)The DT-770 are the hyped ones, big treble, big bass, relaxed midrange (still flatter than comparably priced speakers, natch). Great isolation on those. The other DTs leak sound noticeably, though it'd take sensitive ears to be bothered by it. Not nearly as obvious as Grados or other very, very supra-aural cans. Those things sound like somebody with a crap car stereo is jammin' loud... Haha.
My experience with Beyer's drivers is that there isn't much of a difference between the 250ohm and 600ohm, but you'll notice both of them as being different from the 32ohm.
