Asking for $185.00
Sure. It is brand new never opened from Massdrop. I will sell it for $160.00.
Given the popularity of the recent custom-colored AKG 7XX drop, perhaps it's time to offer the 990s with red alurings instead of turquoise.
Does anyone have an idea when this drop will come back..??

These are customizations for this order. As in everyone purchased the same model with those changes made to the base model.
Thanks for the clarification, my second order on Massdrop and didn't fully understand.
Beyer DT 990 600 Ohm + Norne Audio Vanquish Series Headphone Cable + Maverick Audio TubeMagic A1 = Perfection

What's the purpose of having a DAC? When I looked at the Schiit Stack for entry level I didn't fully understand how it worked. It looked like a Y-splitter was used on the DAC, which made me think the DAC didn't actually do anything for the AMP.
I intend to use these headphones for my Desktop PC.
C'mon people, 4 more commits! This is a sweet deal if you're a treble head.
Shit I would buy these in a second if the drop was extended. Don't have access to my wallet right now.
that blue plastic made it toylike.
The 990 seems to make it on here more often than the 880. It would be nice to see the 880 on here again soon.
Go get the new DT 1770 Pro's they sounds super amazing and blow the older 770 880 and 990's out of the water with the new telsa drivers at 250 ohms
Good call. And they look fantastic. Might be a possibility for my closed back search.
Is this model different from the DT990 'Pro' model?

These do sound fantastic with a OTL tube amp. You can help tame the highs by rolling different tubes. I have a pair from the first drop and they sound amazing with my Bottlehead Crack.
These have the same drivers but different styling and less clamping force on your head slightly lowering the bass response SLIGHTLY!. Also these have a straight cable the pros have a coiled.
when i first got this, i am not impressed at all. as commonly reported, bass forward and vocal recessed. however, the details and clarity is unquestionably good. but after a long "burn in" and hooked to a little dot mkiii, this is one is my new favorite headphone.
these look amazing
So this is the Manufaktur DT 990 which is Customizable DT 990, so if we buy from Madddrop here, how do we Customize the headphone?
what you see here is what you will get.
The only real complaint I have with the DT990/600, as PennAsn hinted at, is at times male vocals are indeed recessed. For music, no worries; for VoiP, be ready to add some dB's to your friends in teamspeak or ventrilo (whatever voip software you use). Not a huge downside, but if you do heavy MP gaming with in-game or external voice chat it's worth keeping in mind.
Just got mine in the mail today and couldn't wait to plug them in for a listen. Here are my first impressions. Full disclosure: I'm listening through a Mayflower Electronics O2 DAC/amp and comparing to my AKG Massdrop Edition K7XX headphones (owned for about 5 months now). My music collection isn't quite as high end as I would like most of my files are MP3s saved at 44.1 kHz at 256kbps with some 16-bit WAV files at 48kHz. No equalizer software or hardware was used.
Comfort These are extremely comfortable and light. Clamping force is moderate and I do feel the ear cups against the sides of my head and the headband pressing down. With that said, since they are so light I don't think long listening sessions will be an issue. My ears do touch the foam covering the drivers but after a few seconds I'm not even aware of it anymore. I wear glasses all the time and I'm happy to report that these don't crush them or make wearing glasses while listening unpleasant.
Sound Definitely very bass forward, much more than I had expected, but not uncontrolled. Upper bass seems to be much more pronounced, particularly on rock songs that feature a lot of upper end bass. The low end of the bass spectrum feels like it wraps around everything, almost as if it's trying to simulate the chest thumping feeling of live deep bass. This is especially true of sustained bass from pianos or bass drums. Mids sound rather neutral and not over emphasized. Men's vocals sound a tiny bit recessed but this may have more to do with how the music was produced since some songs were clearer than others. Women's vocals cut right through everything without becoming overpowering. Treble is very nice and I don't find them too treble forward at all. Strings shine beautifully and round out the bass very nicely.
Bass heavy styles such as that from Madeon, Deadmau5, or Daft Punk are represented beautifully and Yo-Yo Ma's cello seems to sound a bit more full, especially on his rendition of Cello Suite No.1. Japanese taiko drumming from Kodo gives you that same full wall of sound that you would feel during a live performance without sacrificing the clarity of the flutes.
Crunchy 80's metal and contemporary rock are also great to listen to on these headphones, especially if it was recorded with with lower bass levels or scooped mids. Songs by Steve Vai and Joe Satriani can be a bit more mid forward, especially from early in their careers, and the elevated bass of the DT990s evens things out a bit. With rock songs the bass can be a bit overwhelming to the point where I feel it's almost like a wall of bass competing with everything else but I suspect this will change as the headphones get used.
Traditional Japanese shamisen songs are amazing. Sound across the board is well represented with the greater bass presence making it sound fuller, something that can be difficult to achieve since shamisen music is quite treble heavy. String and other similar accoustic music will benefit from this effect as well.
Older jazz pieces sound much more full. Vince Guaraldi's Linus and Lucy get's a nice full low end whereas before I had to listen more closely for that upright bass.
Overall they sound rather close to the usual "V" shape, making them a more fun headphone.
Compared to the K7XX The soundstage is much smaller than with the K7XX. The K7XX has a much more analytical/neutral frequency response and feels much more open. Bass is much lower, making them ideal if you want more treble in your bass-heavy songs or if you want that wider yet closer feeling soundstage. The DT990s seem to have a smaller soundstage, almost as if you're listening in a very small auditorium. The K7XX makes it feel like you're sitting right in front of the band, particularly with classical pieces, and you're in a concert hall. The DT990s definitely sound more closed than open, possibly contributing to the increased bass presence. The K7XXs are much more accurate in terms of sound reproduction while the DT990s are more fun, at least at up to this point.
Final Thoughts I'm very happy with the DT990s after taking the time to sit down and give them a proper listen. I'm glad I ignored my first reaction of, "jeeze, so much bass, not what I wanted," and I will more than likely use them for gaming and when I need to tune out the world for long photo editing sessions. Fresh out of the box the bass is good but there are occasions where it's too pronounced and I suspect this will ease off during the burn in process. We'll see how they change as I burn them in.
Thanks for taking the time to write out such a thoughtful review, I enjoyed reading it. :)

It's a go! The order for the Beyerdynamic Manufaktur DT 990 600 Ohm was placed just after the drop came to an end. Now our vendor will be working hard to prepare it for shipment to each of you.
As soon as we receive word from the vendor about the shipping schedule, we will update you all with that information.
Look forward to another update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 7/15 or earlier if anything comes up.
This is the only downside of joining a scheme like this-----you have to wait for a while to get what you purchased. Any news when are we getting this stuff?
Hey, news on when these will be shipped? Can't wait!
Hope this is a very good one :) my first time of drop
I own those phones and they are too bright for me, too harsh. They are not fit for recordings made on less-then-top studios, because they turn sibilants into small red-hot drill bits in your ears. I use those phones only for gaming: very 3D, very punchy explosions. Grado 500 are better in everything, except comfort.
anybody here knows if this is as bright as the T70p? T70p is good but the treble really hurts my ears.
Hope this will be better :D
Ok this model is available for 159€ taxes incl. in France. So what the fuck with that MSRP of 473 USD?!dt-990-pro
I mean it would cost less for me to buy it directly from the manufacturer and send it to an American citizen than going through that drop. If anyone really want to get that headset I'm willing to sent you one from the manufacturer in germany. This drop is a scam.

So by taking part in this drop you get access to customization or not?
apparently you have misunderstood about this drop. this drop is the dt 990 600 ohms with pre-customized parts that suppose to be from the poll. we don't get to pick what we want nor have the extra options as EU region does. but will come in exactly like the picture show. pretty much black everything with the torquise rim instead of stock white everything like the link you posted. you can find out the cost of the headphone with different parts from the link i posted earlier. and it definitely not 249 euro after customization.
I've bought a pair from Amazon 600ohm DT 990. Is it me or these headphones are piercing bright?
Some people find them very bright with piercing treble. Using an OTL tube amp you can tame the highs and the 990 really shines.
I found the DT990/600 to be awfully harsh on my old schiit modi rev.a and magni rev.a. Same goes for the asgard 2. They performed much better on my violectric hpa v100. Treble was smoothed out and I no longer felt that they were piercing or harsh. The Violectric amp outclasses the entry level schiit gear by a lot (imo/ime). I did swap to a Matrix Mini-i Pro as well; again outclassing the modi easily. The recommendation for an OTL amp is probably correct as well, but I have no experience with that.
That is one sweet color scheme. Love it.
Wasn't this the one that last time it took something like 3 months for any progress to be made until everyones money was returned?
The difference here is that (1) only one set of options is available this time, (2) which allows Beyerdynamic North America to order parts from Germany and assemble the headphones in advance instead of having to wait for exact numbers of customers and selected options *at the end of the drop*.
Last time, BD NA had to order parts from Germany *after* the drop. They didn't even have all of the parts yet, let alone the assembled headphones.
That drop offered two sets of headphones (880s and 990s), three levels of Ohms (32, 250 and 600) and multiple options for the customization of each pair. Massdrop's multiple poll results created far too many variables for BD NA to handle in one drop, but no one knew that (including BD) until the problems surfaced.
This drop should go as smoothly as any other drop for a *single product with a specific set of customizations*.
