The cable broke within a few months for me too. I sent mine to the US to get re-cabled. Been superb ever since.

I've owned these cans for 8 months now and I really love them more every day. Maybe it's Stockholm syndrome, but the Beyer sound has always just clicked with my ears. I've preferred these over the HD800s, Fostex TH900s, and Edition 8s. Blasphemy, I know, but perfect for my use which is a mix of at home, at work, and on the subway. The only other phones I've heard that I liked more were the T1s, but not practical for my setup.
I did have some cable problems with my T5Ps as well. The 3 foot Neutrik cable was just poorly designed and it started fading in and out. However, Beyerdynamic did replace my cable and they have since updated the cable design so it doesn't break as easily. Since then, zero problems and tons of enjoyment. I'm tempted to get a second pair as a gift to my better half.

The Beyer T5p was the second worst experience I've had buying headphones. The JH Audio Roxannes are the clear cut winners to worst company / product I've ever purchased but the T5p was a mediocre set of headphones with a badly engineered carrying case that forced me to get them repaired.

I also ordered 2 deloops, one audiophile version for myself and one sports version for my friend (who wants a case for his grados since the pizza box doesn't really work :P) And it was the universal roxanne. Pre-ordered it in mid Jan and they were set to ship end of Janurary. Next thing I know it gets pushed back one month, then another month. I only end up getting them end of March / early April. As soon as I open them I notice cosmetic defects in the right earpiece in the carbon fiber weave. Not the most noticeable thing but a quick look over showed it very clearly. I put them on and they sounded really off. Just overall mediocre and a hard fit for my small ears (but still got a seal). I noticed the left side was muffled / odd sounding but thought maybe I was adjusting to properly placing these in my ears. I see audiophile friend #1 and he plays around with them and gives me a bunch of tips including some double flange which opened up the sound a lot, gave me a great seal but still had that weird sound in the left side. He puts them on and instantly mentions he hears something wrong with the left side but I dismissed it as probably a fit issue. I see audiophile friend #2 and instantly tells me the left ear is defective, most likely a blocked tube or something. I listen carefully and yup, that's what I was hearing, just muffled mids making the sound from the left sound weird. I spent a couple weeks emailing them with no response. I call the phone number on their site to find out it's disconnected. I call the repairs center which give me the correct phone number and I call, ask for Andy (the VP) and he tells me he's going to make this right by sending me a pair of universals that he would QC himself. I send him my address by email and he tells me he'll ship them out the next day. Month later with no replacement, I call up JH again and get Angie who handles customer support. She tells me Andy went to China and won't be back for at least a week. He also never shipped anything out to my address nor had he left any notes saying to send me a replacement. She tells me to cc her into an email to Andy so she can remind him when he gets back. I do that and he actually sends me a replacement. I found out then that the right earpiece of the original set I had was also defective, but to a lesser degree than the left earpiece. The replacement left earpiece has a more clear tint, sounds more clear, etc but now there's a channel imbalance. Fantastic quality control. Love it.
With Beyer I had bought the T5p and the way the felt case is shaped, it destroyed the part of the cables entering the cups in 2 months. By the third month no matter what I tried I couldn't get any sound from the left side so I called them up and they said they'll handle it. I still had to pay to get it shipped ($50) and it took them a month to fix it because they had to get the parts from Germany or something (well, they are a german company but it's a question of resoldering the cable. I have a hard time believing they didn't have a spare headphone cable around or something). They didn't charge me for the repair (3 month old pair of $1000 headphones broken because of a shortsighted case design which was changed during production from the aluminum case to the felt case) but I was still pissed.
Those are the only times I've ever had defects / problems in higher end headphones and I've owned a lot including HD800s that were several years old, some older Stax and other cheaper to more expensive sets.
Awful experience with both companies though at least Beyer didn't avoid me. I also didn't very much enjoy Beyers. I've tried them on lots of amp and dac combos (and not just the T5p, but other models including the T1) and I always felt that the sounded a bit dry / electronic. Meh, guess that's preference for you.

$900 for portable headphones. Wow. I'd be so sad if I dropped these on the go.
