Update: I got my T90's back from The Sound Surgeon (affiliated with Beyerdynamic). They sound excellent, no distortion. I still don't know what was wrong with them as Sound Surgeon wouldn't return my call, nor would they respond to my email. I would like to give all credit to Henry at Massdrop for getting the ball rolling to get my T90's fixed. Although they sound really good now, I still won't ever buy Beyerdynamic again.

IneedsleepI'd use a tube amp if possible, for best T90 sound.

dalethornHi Dale, which Tube Amp are you using with the T90s?

motion2082So far I've only used the Bravo Ocean amp I bought here. Although it's considered well below the price range you'd expect to use with the T90, with a good source and DAC, the Ocean sounds great. Putting it differently, the T90 has a very crispy top end and not a strong bass, but both get better with that amp, so if you got the right tube amp I'm pretty sure it would bring out the best in the T90. BTW, the other day I was listening to my soundtrack from Le Voyage Dans La Lune on the B&W P7 - a very good headphone - but I thought "wow, I think I've heard this sound better". Then I switched to the T90 and it really came alive.

dalethornThanks for the reply. I'm probably going to get a Meier Corda Jazz http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=577 with a Quad D1 DAC http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=931 Will have a listen tomorrow and go from there...don't know much about tubes but there is a good one for sale here atm

motion2082The Meier is highly regarded.
dalethornSolid-state is where it's all at, dawg. Tubes are like recording blu-ray onto VHS for nostalgia and giggles. If the treble is a bit much for you and you need uber-high treble THD to tame it, you might as well just get a K702 instead as it has nearly the same sound minus the boosted bass and treble.

Valensilius_ZephyrusSorry, to a lot of people tube amps are where it's at dawg. If you don't like them, fine. The tube loving people like myself won't miss you.

Swampyhue hue hue hue, tube decay, hue hue hue high THD. Not arguing that warmer sounds sound nice, but warmer sound means less accurate. Plus most people do not want to have to roll tubes every few months, or hope that their multiple tubes stay in sync etc. etc. etc. Just to clarify not hating on tubes, but they are not as true to the sound as you can get.

Valensilius_ZephyrusHeadphones are like pets - each one has a personality. The nifty thing about EQ is you can take (for example) a T1 and T90 and get the signatures in line with each other pretty close, to eliminate that as a distraction, then you can really hear the superior detail of the T1. Audiophiles who are willing to tweak their gear can often discover new pleasure and enjoyment that way.

IneedsleepBeyer is a very bureaucratic very top-down 'professional' gear manufacturer, and if you're just an ordinary consumer, forgetaboutit.

dalethornInteresting Forget about what?
dalethornIneedsleep is just unlucky, I think. I've never had [serious] issues dealing with Beyerdynamic before, though they sometimes tend to take action and not tell you about it, leaving you hanging there until your item(s) reach your doorstep all of a sudden.
I would expect T1 to deliver a bit more detail, and it better, for its price tag. EQ showed me how my T90 and K701 aren't terribly different.
