Hello
The Massdrop: Big Sky Soul 2 P tent has arrived.
I am contacting you now with reference to:
bigskyintl 40 Big Sky International 5w more_horiz cyberkraut Please see > responses below:
I'd be happy to be able to receive the shorter 14"-poles instead of the longer ones. What doI have to do? > Please contact Big Sky directly after your receive your tent. We can exchange the poles you received for shorter folding length poles.
My prima vista impression of BSI products is that of very good products. The interchangeable parts and pieces and the exact difference between similar products, advantages and disadvantages, can only be worked out after intensive study of your web pages. > Thank you, Big Sky's does its best to produce world-class quality products.
Is there a shop affilated to BSI in Germany? Where do I get spare parts? > Big Sky has warehouses in the USA, Europe, and Asia to support its customers around the world. Big Sky's Europe warehouse is located in the EU, so no import taxes when shipped to customers in EU countries, such as Germany.
1. What do I have to do to receive the 14´´-poles?
2. Functions of different parts of the tent. Attached please find 4 pictures
I am not sure about the functions of each of these parts 1st picture: Guyline to use for fixation of the tent with a stake? 2ond picture: „Red double zero“ to attach the single „zero“ of the fly with as shown? 3rd picture: What purpose does the „lower single red zero“ serve for? 4th picture: Thought for a guyline to be attached there?
Is there a full description to be had, the different parts are not totally self-explainatory (at least for me)?
Thanks for your service
Sincerely
Markus Drews

Massdrop: Please do not bother me ever again with companies of this kind. I gladly work with serious and organized firms, this one definitely doesn't belong to this group. Imagine you need a spare part ...
cyberkraut
cyberkraut, sorry I am just reading your comments since we do not monitor this discusssion... we show the shorter folding length poles were delivered 2017-02-23. Did you received them?
Bulk order shipped! The vendor informed us that the group's order was picked up and is on its way to our warehouse in New Jersey. Based on the tracking provided, the order is scheduled to arrive on 12/12.

If you have any questions, please visit our Help Center (https://massdrop.com/helpcenter).
The group's bulk order arrived earlier to our warehouse in New Jersey and many of the individual packages have already shipped back out. However, upon taking inventory of everything received, our team was made aware of a backorder affecting a small handful of units. Rest assured, we've reached back out to the vendor to resolve this hiccup and expect to have the remaining units in our warehouse shortly.
We understand that the additional wait time is undesirable. If you would prefer to cancel your order, please contact Community Support using the “Contact Support” button in your transactions page (http://massdrop.com/transactions).

So we should assume that if we haven't received a tracking number we're in the backordered group?

Bobby: "BAnyway possible to upgrade to the 14" poles through the drop?"
What is the difference of the poles included in the offer and the 14"" poles?
I find the BSkyI - pages with the different offers very hard to understand

Please send me address, phone aso. of the warehouse in EU or even Germany, thanks
I can buy this same tent in Australia off the shelf for 221USD for the 1P. This is not such a good as deal as it appears.

Is it possible to ship your Let-it-Por products to Seoul, South Korea from your Asia office without my having to pay import tax?
hardcorehiker
@rmeurant - These will all ship from our fulfillment center in the US.
Anyway possible to upgrade to the 14" poles through the drop?

BobbyJ
BobbyJ, please contact Big Sky after you receive your tent, we will exchange the poles. The price difference for the upgrade is USD6 for the Soul tent and USD7 for Soul x2. Thanks for your interest, Big Sky International
BobbyJ
That's fantastic. Thank you!
I purchased the 2 man version of this tent in the last drop. I've used it several times and found that it to be a great tent for one person. I like that it is free standing, which is useful as many of the heavily used tracks where I live have tent platforms to limit damage.
I appreciate the weight saving from my previous, mine comes in at 1.6 kg with Tyvek ground sheet (I bought the wrong type so I think it's a little heavier), guide ropes, 4xTi nail pegs, 6XTi Shepherd hooks and 4xGroundhog stakes + ripstop stake bag.
Packed size in nice and small. I like that the tent storage bag is oversized allowing easy packing of the tent, which can then be sinched down with the compressions straps.
It'd be squeezy for 2 people and gear as the vestibule is small. I also think that due to the door design of the dome tent, water can come in to the tent inner during entry and exit in wet conditions.

I would say it depends on you and your hiking partner. I've used this with my significant other many times, and for us, its perfect. If I was sharing with a non-significant other... then it may seem a bit too snug.
AJXD
That's true and it also depends where you camp. Where I live the weather and temps can be so variable that it's very difficult to pack as small and lite weight as I've seen some of the US guys do.
I guess 1 person in Let-it-Por is not possible?

I'm new to Massdrop so I wasn't around for the previous go at these. Did it have the same package? Same upgraded fly/poles/etc? They have some many options to make the tent more expensive, so I was unsure of the previous set.
Why is this tent 240$ instead of 200$ like it was 6 months ago? Did the materials become more expensive over time? Did the CEO not get a big enough bonus? Is this mass drop's new mark-up? Was there a pricing error that was overlooked? It has been almost a week now and you (big sky) have answered everyone else's questions except for mine. >: (

I'm with you on this, vpizzitola22. Your question is entirely reasonable and understandable... and you deserve a timely and responsive answer.
Thanks, Danny... It would be nice to hear directly from Big Sky on this, rather than you being put on the spot.
BTW, can I view the previous Massdrops you mentioned in order to ascertain what other Big Sky tent options might just be rolling around again as Massdrops in the not too distant future?
Does the days left countdown switch to hours after this drop has less than one day left?
Lane1369
Yes indeed @Lane1369
Could you answer my question too please?
Anyone know how many interior pockets the Soul 2 Person has and does it have attachment loops inside for a gear loft?

@bigskyintl - Thanks for the added info! We'll include this in our specs on the drop page.
bigskyintl, thank you for the info!
I also bought this tent last time. Is there any chance of buying just the inner tent by itself?
It has been serving me well until the mesh was severely damaged.
Local replacement costs are prohibitive...

Not the footprint... The inner no-see-um mesh.
Telios
Telios, please email Big Sky directly... Big Sky always tries to do our best to repair/replace Big Sky products that have been damaged.
I own this tent already. Purchased it last year directly from Big Sky. It's marvelous in all seasons and remarkably light. As with any UL gear the down side will be durability. I've not run into any issues but I always carry some tenacious tape if something unfortunate should happen. Great price for the set up too

sorry for the delay replying... first, here is what Backpacker's article said, "Rants: The tradeoff for the Soul’s impressive specs: The ultralight silnylon fabrics are more fragile than most." and in the review, "Even with careful handling and site selection, the fly suffered a small tear on a weeklong trip." Big Sky asked Backpacker's reviewer to send the tent back so we could see what happened... we got the tent back, and what happened was the reviewer got the fly zipper flap caught in the zipper. In the process of getting the zipper unstuck, the reviewer caused a small tear on the edge of zipper flap. There was no other damage to the fly... Big Sky sent this fabric to an independent testing company, SGS, and tear testing showed the SuprSil fabric was 2x stronger than other tent manufacturer's similar fabric that had PU coating on one side and silicone coating one side. Big Sky's SuprSil fabric is coated both sides with silicone making it lighter weight AND 2x stronger than same fabric that has PU coating on one side. Big Sky wishes Backpacker magazine could have done a little more research on the "tear" because we think the review would have been written differently if the details were known.
sbanj17 is correct that clearing the area of sharp objects is a good idea... also, look/ask if the tent fly fabric is coated BOTH sides with silicone... if it is coated with PU on one side, then it is only half (1/2) as strong as the same fabric coated BOTH sides with silicone. Besides being 2x stronger BOTH sides silicone fabric will lighter weight than the same fabric that has PU coating. Most major tent companies coat their fabric one side with PU because that makes it less expensive, and PU coated fabric is easier for sewers to work this... it takes skilled sewers to be able to sew fabric coated BOTH sides with silicone since it is more slippery. Fortunately, Big Sky has some world class sewers that are some of the best in the world.
Any reason this is 240$ and not 200$ like it was in the past?
This sounds like it could be a great tent. How solid is the July 16 ship date? I have a date with the JMT on August 1.
If this drop goes active again, I'd like to see it with an option for a second solid fabric inner tent. We talked at ADZPCTKO before about how most of your tents were for folks in the desert wanting to keep sand out of their tents. Well, I live in the desert now too, so I can appreciate sand staying out. It'd be nice in the winter too.
