So is this thing useable once the battery runs out of charge or is it just camp potty after that?

arislanPretty much just fire in a can at that point, you will have no forced air into the canister.

arislanThe whole point of the thing is that it charges from heat. If the battery is dead dead, just light a fire in the can, and it will start charging the battery again and the blower will start once there's enough battery. Once the blower starts, the fire self stokes and burns HOT.

arislanMluczkow, I think that's not accurate. The whole point of the original BioLite was that the heat charges itself. That's the orange stove that retails for about $135. This new product--the blue stove--is different. It does not charge itself via the heat of what it's burning. This means it saves on space and weight (compared to the original orange stove) becuase you're carrying less technology (no recharger and no USB port). Some say this is lame....well, that's why they make the orange version. This one is for people who want less weight and space. The idea is that, even without recharging, 1 full charge will still last as long as 25-30 100g fuel canisters....so if you were going on a week long trip, you may carry less weight with this (as you'd need to pack in 5 or 6 100g fuel canisters...and pack OUT the empties), and you would not need the recharing capabilities of the heavier orange stove BioLite. If you're backpaking for 2 months....yeah....you'd run out of a charge with this blue BioLight. This is all theoretical...I've never owned either. Just saying, this blue one is NOT recharged by the heat of what's burning--that's a different product.

TokayMcKayThis is probably the most accurate comment here. Massdrop didn't really make that very clear. Here I was wondering why this model was so cheap.
It has no thermo-electric generator, like the (higher-priced) orange one does.
