Nice, but I worry about magnetizing my knives. I'm afraid that during sharpening, a magnetized blade will attract the metal filings back to itself and this will somehow foul the edge.
Am I being paranoid?

This would be just perfect for me were it not for the mounting hardware, because I have ceramic tile on the wall where it would go. A very short while ago I overlooked a drop that was free-standing and allowed you to place knives on either side. It was exactly what I needed because no holes needed to be made. I'm hopeful that the drop will be offered again, and if not, I can search the market for the item.

I am not a fan of the metal brackets on the ends.
Instead, this is what I have (bought it a few years ago). Made in the US, which is always nice. And the mounting screws are recessed, so all you see is a floating block of wood. Magnets are strong and don't have weak points (I have some heavy shun knives on it). And also the wood looks great and the finish is really nice, can't feel a seam at all. It is more expensive, however. Figured I'd throw another option out there for those looking for this type of knife block https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GZ0PRRU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

FYI for those considering this, bad reviews on Amazon (magnet may not run full length of bar (only 6 'spot' magnets) and weak magnets at that (complaints about not holding heavy knifes). If you still want it, though, it's $28 via Amazon Prime currently.

rachaelfaithThat's the bamboo version. Trying to find out if there's a huge price siffrenc between beech wood and bamboo
Things like this are why I love new communities so much. Such a nice simple item that I can really get a lot of use out of, but something I'd never have thought of on my own.

Can I stick this to the side of a refrigerator? I can't punch holes in the wall.
We have a couple different magnetic knife mounts; really like the elegant look of this one.

Bought mine from Amazon. My family uses magnetic mounts for our phones. This is now mounted to the kitchen wall along with a 6-outlet USB charging station. Counter space reclaimed.

The shipping kills this drop when comparing to Amazon prime.
