There is no chance the Spot is waterproof. There is no gasket liner anymore or a pressure lock arm. That is gone it seems which was something I liked about the previous models. It is just a snap on back for the battery pack now... What happened Black Diamond?! IPX8 my butt!

smallbitWatch the video. Yes, the battery compartment is open, but the rest of the light is sealed. The battery compartment will fill with water but the light will continue to work. At least it does in their fishbowl test...

HoosierDaddyI would rather have a gasket to protect the batteries since most water is highly salinized. That is why I got the Storm model. Fully sealed so I never have to worry about anything. Really do not think this should be called waterproof if the whole battery compartment fills with whatever it is submerged in. What is "waterproof" anymore if the battery compartment doesn't need to be protected? It just loses it's meaning yo.

smallbitYes my next headlamp will be the Storm. I have the spot from 2016. Before a year was up, the red light would shut off on its own. I have a Petzl from 2009 that is still going strong. I bought the Spot as a lighter and brighter replacement... :-/ so I will try the Storm and hope for the best. .

CardamomteaI have a couple petzls, there is a nice jump to the storm. It is reaaaaaally bright when you have the multiple beams going. I highly recommend the Storm. Aside from the Lumintop Prince, it is my favorite flashlight.
