cbownsYou linked to a voluntary recall for gear that had zero reported injuries - isn't that the type of company you DO want to buy from? They are so conservative when it comes to safety that they proactively replace gear that hasn't even failed in the field.
Factory seconds is a pretty general term - these are cosmetic seconds. Black Diamond tests the carabiners first, and then applies logos. No point in painting a biner that won't pass safety test. So, these are the same safety and have the same warranty as all BD gear. And Black Diamond has one of the best reputations for safety in the entire industry.

DannyMilksI have no objections to how they conducted and communicated the recall. For me, their description of the manufacturing flaw (see https://warranty.bdel.com/CarabinerRecall/FAQ for much more info) points to a significant blind spot in their manufacturing QC. I have no doubt their gear was and continues to be well-designed, and I have one of their belay devices, but the devil is in the details, and good, stringent product acceptance tests at the factory are a key part of that.
