After my comment yesterday, I met someone who had the same problem with the pole segments sticking, and he showed me how to fix it. You basically just have to use a lot of force to pull them apart -- they will come apart. Then you need to lube the segments ... and probably need to store the poles disassembled rather than fully connected. Mine are carbon fiber, but I think their other poles use the same internal mechanics. I am not sure about the best lubricant -- maybe silicone spray.
